Do you use them. All the time?

Whats the best brand to buy? For use at home.

I'm really thinking about giving up the fork and spoon, and any input would be great!

Just go to your local Asia gift store and pick out a few sets and try them.  I prefer the slightly squared off style as opposed to the pointy ones.  I have about 6 or so pairs that I use almost every day and I am a gaijin !!

they have brands? I thought they was just 2  sticks

Sorry, people evolved beyond using two sticks to pick up one grain of rice and one stick to carry two buckets of shit a long time ago.

I like the bamboo and wooden ones because they are less slippery than the plastic variety.  The extra grip really helps hold the food.

Koreans like my wife often use skinny metal ones. She also uses a big ol' spoon,too-just like all the other Koreans.
2/17/2009 2:59:15 PM EDT
[#6]
I use them only when I eat ramen, stir-fry, or sushi.

You just suck at using them.

I have no problems eating [the right kind] of rice with chopsticks.

I can do chop sticks pretty well.  We own several nice pairs that we bought at some Asian grocery store some years back.

As far as what constitutes a premium brand of chop stick, who knows.

I would like to get a few large cooking-sized pairs for frying.  Seems like they'd be an excellent kitchen tool.

Do they make a tritium powered model for night eating?

Funny how every movie showing Chinese takeout has them using chopsticks while everytime I get Chinese takeout, they include the plastic fork.

Why would you do that?

It seems like a novelty in a restaurant and an attempt to seem different/cultured at home

So you use the stabbing 4 pronged instrument eh?

My family and I usually use a bamboo variety that is squared and has ridges on the ends where you pick up the food.  Been using chop sticks for as long as I remember and I still cant get used to using the metal kind.

I've got chopstick skills and was told that at a bigwig dinner in Beijing.

That said, I generally only use them at Asian restaurants.

The reason they are so small - can't pick up enough food with them contraptions.

I use em at restaurants though I'd like to get some at home.

all the authentic places around here use squared ones, much  better than rounded.

That reminds me of a day i was in an Chinese restaurant a couple months ago.

A guy came in asking for chopsticks at the counter manned by a young chinese chick...

She says in a chinese accent "I don't know where they are!"

The replies: "This is a chinese restaurant and you don't know where your chopsticks are?"

Her: "No, Chopsticks too hard, I prefer a fork!"

Me and the guy i was with almost shit ourselves laughing! It was just too ironic, the White guy wants chopsticks and the Chinese chick prefers a fork!!!

I eat them at (authentic) Asian restaurants.  I'm half-asian and learned to use them at home.

That said, I'd never use them exclusively.  Fork and knife are just fine.  I use the plastic ones you buy at Asian grocery stores.

Brand isn't important.  Get a few different pairs (wood, metal) and see what works for you.

I'd say to get a metal pair. That way you don't have to buy them 1,000,000 times.

Either that or ask your next asian server/grocery checkerouter what he/she uses. LOL.

The best chopstick is the wooden one, because when u eat and a little grease get on them, they won't be as slippery as the metal or plastic one(trust me) and as far as the shape, It shouldn't be too round. Get the one that is square with smooth corner and as it move down to the end it get round. Those will fit your hand better and more comfortable and is easily to manipulate them.

something similar to this.

fork knife spoon.  the only way to eat food.  I like to shove as much food in my mouth as possible, chopstick don't let me do that

I'm quite damn good with chopsticks.

I use them whenever I'm eating a noodle dish. Simple fact is that noodles are a pain in the butt to eat with a fork - much easier with chopsticks.

Stir fry is also chopstick food, to me anyway.

You won't catch me trying to eat a steak or anything stupid like that.

I like my 'sticks to be a bit longer than a hand-span. Pointy at one end. Rounded or not doesn't make a difference... I do like wood, but you have to be kinda careful with the treatment. Hand-wash only. I've seen TI chopsticks, but am too cheap to shell out for some. Also, metal is hard... so is highly lacquered wood, as it gets slick and hard to grab things with.

I prefer the japanese style of chopstick

With Chopsticks, I can shovel appropriate kinds of food into my mouth faster than I can chew and swallow.  They don't keep me from fattening up  My wife however: she's lucky to finish a plate in under an hour of concentrated eating if she uses chopsticks!
