| That America uses .223 or 5.56mm rounds, in our WOT, which I'm assuming companies are cranking out millions of rounds for this purpose. Why is it that these rounds aren't funneling back down to the populace? If America pulls out of Iraq, will the markets be flooded with .223 ammo? |

The factories are producing more than 5.5 million rounds per month. The current problem is that the forces are expending 5.5 million rounds per month (or were). Once we quite pulling the trigger 5.5 million times per month and then wait for the forces stockpiles to be come full, the rest of the stuff will find its way to our shelves (in a couple of years). I believe the forces like to keep approximately 1 billiion rounds in the pile. |

Back in desert storm when the fighting ended a friend of mine was on an aircraft carrier and watched them pushing pallet after pallet of 5.56 ammo in crates right into the ocean. That's where the left over ammo will go. in theater probably, as it is probably more expensive to bring it home that it would be worth to surplus it out (in the form of components) but the stuff stateside might just make it out into the surplus market, at least in component form. Prepare for a reloading BONANZA! |
