I've already filed and received my income tax refund.

I work retail and sell Motorola products. In 2008, I won over $600 worth of Motorola products. They (Motorola) called me today and said they needed my info for a 1099 because I have to pay taxes on the goods I received.

How in the hell does that work if I've already filed and received my return?

File an amended return with the additional income and pay taxes on the value listed in the 1099. Otherwise you are looking at interest and penalties down the road.
Course I don't know shit about taxes, I just made that up.

Either file a amended return or try the Daschle defense when the IRS contacts you.

Future CPA here, he's right.

ETA: Just to be safe you should hire an accountant to do it for you.

You can amend your return, or the IRS will do it for you and grant you interest and penalties.

Your question was already answered correctly above.  File an amended return and pay the extra tax rather than wait for them to send you a notice with the tax plus interest and penalties.  But because it's late, I'm tired and I'm eating a big block of cheese, I'm going to follow up anyway and ask what is your deal.  1099s and W2s did not have to be mailed out until Monday, February 2 (because the last day of January fell on a week-end).  Then you have to allow for mailing.  The very idea that you filed and already received your refund by February 10 shows that you filed prematurely.  You certainly did that on your own since no one who works in the business would have let you file so early.  A taxpayer always has to allow time for the tax forms to trickle in.

My neighbor is a CPA and has done my taxes for me for a while now. I haven't received any "winnings" over $600 before last year so I was not aware of the "rules" and I never mentioned it to her before. I went over and asked her about this situation last night and she said to go ahead and file the 1099 with Motorola and bring the form over to her when I get it and she will file the amended return when I do so.
