I have a 2005 GMC Z71, the Service 4WD message came on and the light for the push button 4WD either does not come on at all or the red neutral light is lit.
Anybody know anything about it? I don't want to take it to the dealer its been out of warranty for a long time and they will charge out the ass i figured somebody here might have some info on it. Thanks for any help! KJCA3 |

Depending on the dealer, their service dept., and the state of your warranty, you may be blamed for the failure. "You ran your transfer case DRY, so its your fault for not performing proper maintenance". |
| Basically GM doesn't fully cover the pump in the transfer case and as the pump vibrates it eventually causes a hole in the transfer case that leaks out. There's an aftermarket plastic sleeve that can be added around the pump that stops the issue from forming in the first place. Friend of mine had his transfer case go out that way and it took $2000 to fix. |
