I need to wash some of my 226 mags.  I shot an IPSC match yesterday and they all ended up in the Ok red dirt several times.

They are blued steel, any ideas?

Also, if you ever get the chance to shoot an IPSC match, DO IT.  It's the most fun thing I have done in a long time, especially for the $5 entry fee.

I've shot IPSC matches and our range has sand...needless to say, with wet sand stuck in the mags it's a pain.  I use something similar to this kitchen brush to swab out the inside of the field stripped mags.  I then have to hand wipe the springs and outside of the mag body (using compressed air and a cloth).

Hope that helps.

$5.00 is a great deal.  The matches in MI were $20.00.

+1 to brushing out the inside of the Mag.

Use the dishwasher and follow up with a light coat of oil.

I throw mine in a brass tumbler from time to time. Cleans and polishes the insides well.

I use the kitchen brush and soapy water, then spray with Water Displacer number 40, then wipe with a rag, then oil.

It was only $5 because it was my first one, later they are $10.  I burnt about $45 in ammo, but it was well worth it.
