Going in for an interview tomorrow.

What are some typical questions you've been asked from the HR guys and the best way to answer them?

The closer it gets the more nervous I'm getting. Damn I hate these things.

Define and explain the concept of a SDLC.

What elements must every defect report have to be successful.

On your E6 line the FD S.G. is low, the bromide level is low, but DMIN and LD are high.  Suggest possible causes and courses of action to bring the process back under control. Cite the action and control limits.

IOW it maters what the job is.

"Why don't you tell us about some of your weaknesses?"

"Sometimes I snap and kill pencilnecks from HR."

Ask them the following:

1. How hard is it to get days off?
2. How many breaks would i get in a day?
3. Do you drug test?
4. How many sick days do i get?
5. What happens if i'm late?

Be honest, be friendly and answer the questions the best you can.   And go to bed.  You have an interview tomorrow.

Also, let us know how it went.  Good luck.

This right here. Just be yourself. Get a good nights sleep. Show up to the interview early.
Good luck!

always "tell me about a time..."
- when you headed up a project and things didn't go as planned...
- when you didn't have the skills/knowledge necessary to accomplish the task at hand...
- when one of your teammates didn't hold up their end of the project...
- when you had to research something in order to bring something unethical to light...

then there's "give me 5 words that describe you," "tell me 5 uses for a pencil other than writing," and "why are you applying for this job?"

relax.  go over some of your past experience and believe in your heart that if you're meant for this position, it's yours.  (not quite a destiny thing, but things have a way of working out if you'll just be who you are instead of trying to be who they might want you to be...  better "fit" that way.)

break a leg.

Lots of times the person giving the interview is more nervous.  I've been at both ends and I can tell you that they will expect you to be nervous.  They won't judge your personality based on that.

Do your homework.  Research the company.  Find out what attracts you to the business it does.  They tend to ask this a lot.  Answering this question with sincerity and passion will impress them the most.

Yes, get there early.

It went well. However, after leaving , the trip home I had a couple hours to contemplate the minds of Human Resources and their mindset. This lead to a couple instances of "WTF?" on my part.

An overview:
Interview is at 9am. I arrive moments before 8:30am.

Sign in and wait in the lounge for less than 5 min and then it began.

I read over the typical drug test documents and company policy papers and sign and date.

I talk to the kind lady for 20-30 minutes about the company and the exchange is pleasant. At this point I am thinking "Pure tool grade WIN!."

Kind HR lady introduces me to the head of the department for which I am applying for. Very nice guy.

We travel down the hallway to a conference room where the interview begins. It was a really laid back experience for an initial interview. The guy  wearing a leather company logoed jacket and a "Toys for Tots" Marine Polo shirt enjoying a heart shaped candy sucker looks over my resume. Very casual.

He begins by telling me that there are no wrong answers at this point that I am qualified for the position.

We talk about the training I received at college and what brought me into the industry.

After the formal sit down talk he introduced me to a few people within the company that I would be working with and took a tour of the grounds and how their operation worked.

It ended after 3 hours with a trip back to the HR office, said our goodbyes and i made my trip home.

On my way home I began to analyze what just happened and what I would do differently if I had to do it again. A few things stuck out to me.

There were no questions related to any personal reflection such as "how did you overcome a stressful situation.. How did you adapt?" " how would you handle this situation?"

Just a handshake and a farewell.

It just seemed odd that after 3 hours it ended with a tour a handshake and a "we'll contact you". It felt like there was something else.

Otherwise I felt it went really well and am already thinking of ways to improve my interview skills. I'll continue to pump out resumes and calls just like I did yesterday.

Hope you hear back from them.  Mail the guy that interviewed you a hand-written thank you note for giving you the opportunity.  Good luck.

Sounds like you did well and that they were impressed with you.  In my experience they're not going to give you a walkthru and let you meet the coworkers unless you're on the short list of candidates.

Also sounds like the kind of company that's not completely tore up with HR bullshit and voodoo.  That's a hell of a good sign.

The idea for a thank you note is not a bad one either.  Just keep it professional.  I might type it though and hand-sign the name, as it shows a modicum of computer familiarity.  I'm afraid a hand-written note might look a little desperate, and might leave 'em thinking, "Who hand-writes correspondence these days?  Must not have a printer."

You did good though man.. Especially in this market.  Good luck!!

I hope you get and offer. If not remember the 10% rule. 10% of the resumes you send out will get you an interview. 10% of the interviews will get you an offer. Good Luck.

!

I sent a Thank You note after my last interview. Kept it short & sweet with a link to a website that had some of my former projects.  I think it helped.

Good luck.

3 hours??  that's good - interviewers don't have that kind of time to waste on someone they're not pretty darn sure about.  +1 on the thank you note.
