Anybody notice when you buy a pay movie it will not let you keep it on the dvr for more than 24 hours? Then it is automatically erased. When did they start this crap?

I have dish now and was thinking of trying Direct T.V. but, then I heard you have to pay $10 a month for each receiver in your house and $5 a month for each remote control. Is this true and if so is there an option to just buy them outright?
