More specifically, Distributed Denial of Service.   Lots of people send gibberish data to a website.  Sometimes people aren't even aware they're doing it.  Computer virus makes their computer do it.

Not really a hack.  Someone created a website with the Omaha Steaks ad in one frame and the PETA site in another frame.  This type of thing could be done by any grade school kid these days.
