Anyone use it?
I got it last night and started using it. Very simple to hook up. The only problem I found so far is that to dial local numbers that are not the same prefix as your phone you have to add the area code, or punch in *** after the 7 numbers and it does the same thing. I don't do a lot of calling so I found this really is the best deal for me, since it will end up being around $20 a year. |

It is somewhat unreliable/flaky... but I have a cell phone for backup anyway.
For $20 per year, no way in hell am I bitching about it. It works probably 99.5% of the time anyways. I've seen a number of upgrades in the time I've had it, couple years now, so it's not like they aren't working to improve. When I bought it they didn't service my area but promised they would in the future. They picked up my local area 1yr later, and I was able to change the number free, also as promised. Really, I have no room to gripe for the price, but I'm pretty pleased overall anyway. |
| Well so far, so good with me. I've read alot of the complaints with it not working and it seems it has something to do with their computer settings or maybe even operating speed. I did have to use the live customer support today (to figure out about calling locally). It took a little while to get the answer, but I did get it. |

i have had one for almost a yr.. my yr is up in march and i will renew for the 5 yr plan.
i got it as a gimmick.. what could it hurt.. ? its now my everyday land line. i have had zero.. problems with it. my 11 yo uses it to yap away,, that alone is a testament to how it works,, she would be " it sounds bad .. it doesnt work! " right away |

explain how it works plz. thanks I am also thinking about one....Just to have a cheap home phone that I rarely use....Can any of you tech guys explain it to us rock and sharp stick kinda people... Yes, please explain.
Here's their website: Magic Jack This is the nuts and bolts of it: you pay the $39.00 or whatever it is for the device which includes one year of phone use. You plug the device into a USB slot in your computer. The device will automatically link itself to magic jack and download what it needs to run, and then setup instructions will appear for you to choose your area code and prefix. Plug your phone into the magic jack and pick it up, it should be working. They're not kidding when they say it takes about 3 minutes to from start to finish. In order to use it, your computer has to be on, as it is working from your computer. It will work if your computer is sleeping so you don't have to have it fully up. |

The Majic Jack is reliable - your ISP might not be... Or you have failed to optimize your wireless connection. ( Hard line still rules! ) Never expect to use a MJ if anyone on your router is running a torrent client. ( Fools! ) I use MJ and download torrents all the time. I am running Tomato OS on my router and the QOS on that works good. I set MJ to highest priority so my torrents may slow down a bit when i am talking but not much. |
