Any reason I should stay away from them (vs another auto insurance company)?

I am unhappy with State Farm, and the Geico quote that I received is $60 a month less expensive (same coverage). With my 10% paycut, this could come in handy!

Thanks!

We've had Geico for a few years now, and we like it.  I like having the glass coverage
on the policy.  The husband's truck is a rock magnet.  He's had at least 6 new windshields since
we've moved here 9 years ago.  For the glass coverage there's no deductible.  The
customer service is good.  Never had any problems.

Talk to the guys at the local body shops, they will tell you which insurance places are very shady.  I know Geico will force them to first try to use reconditioned or used parts first, before they authorize ordering new parts.  My body shop will order 3 of their used parts right from the start, just so they can refuse them and have the claims adjuster come out and authorize the use of new OEM parts.

I had insurance with them, went to AIG because they were slightly cheaperfor a couple years until the crap they pulled with the bailout BS then went back to Geico. Good customer service and reasonable rates from my experience and I am thinking about switching my homeowners over to them too.

Good idea! I will call our (preferred) body shop and ask their opinion.

I've had them for 18 months now.  I like them, they keep lowering my premiums.  As long as I keep driving like a sane person and not getting any accidents or tickets they'll lower my premium by $15-25 dollars every 6 months.

I had Geico for a couple years, but never had any claims so I can't really say one way or the other.  However I did save a bunch of money by swtiching my car insurance to Progressive.

I've had GEICO auto insurance from about 1997-98 and just recently got home insurance through them (they don't actually offer home insurance, they're like a home insurance reseller).  I don't have any complaints about them, and they are usually lower in price than everyone else I've got quotes from.

We had Esurance then went to Geico because E surance didn't have a Utah license.

I prefer Esurance they are the best no hassle company I have ever worked with.

I've had Geico and luckily haven't had to use my policy for anything. They're easy to work with and you can manage everything online. I saved $75/month by switching to Geico... (sounds like a commercial) But I haven't had any issues with them so I say they're GTG!

I have Progressive, and their service has been stellar.

When my car got broken into, the dazzling urbanite that broke into my car literally tore the dash up trying to get my CD player, he fucked a bunch of stuff up in it too. I think the repairs were close to a grand.

All I had to do was drop my car off at the Concierge Service place, they took my car, had a rental waiting for me. They did all the quotes and got all the autobody work done to it, and they called me a week later when it was ready to come home. That was worth it in itself.

I found out the hard way to be careful to know what you are covered for...

I had Geico on my Camry and motorcycle, and had an accident in my Camry that totalled it... my fault. Thats when I found that I had to pay for my own towing and everything else. I had no coverage for rental or anything else. Then they doubled my rates on my motorcycle so I dropped them and went to Traveller's. I now know for certain that I have towing and rental coverage - and all for about what I was paying Geico.

Not blaming my stupidity on Geico, but I'd rather pay Travellers the same amount for better coverage.

I had Geico on my motorcycle and had great service....But I never had to file a claim.   I changed to Liberty Mutual as I got a huge discount on an employee plan.  I cut my bill almost in half with Liberty.  I had 3 vehicles and a motorcycle, all with full coverage

How the fuck do they determine if GEICO is anti-gun?  what actions put them on that list??  they are based out of DC/Maryland??

Second off

To whoever posted aboout them using aftermarket/LKQ (Like kind and quality) parts first....  News flash....

EVERY INSURANCE COMPANY OUT THERE DOES THE SAME THING!!!

Aftermarket parts are just as good and reliable as OEM parts.  Im 99% of cases they have a lifetime warrently while Most OEM parts have a 90 day warranty.   That should say somthing.    Guess what a LKQ (refurbished part) is??  and OEM Part that came off another vehicle.  you get rear ended in your  F150,  its perfectly safe and (and as long as your body shop isnt crap) just as good workmanship if you take another tailgate off another F150 that has front end damage, but way the cheaper.  They arent going to put parts on a car that make it unsafe.   Its a huge liability for the body shop and insurance company if they do.   If every insurance company used OEM parts, everyones insurance rates would be through the fucking roof.  There is a huge unncessary stigma around aftermarket refubished parts.  Trust me, any other insurance company you use will use aftermarked/ LKQ if they are available because they are just as good.

ETA: as far as GEICO specifically.  I think they have great customer service,  they normally have competative rates.  No insurance company is going to be the cheapest for every person out there because each company has different underwritng standards.  I've had claims with them and they normally get resolved really quickley unless they are having to fuck around and haggle with the claimant.  Their Auto repair express program is great.  really quck and quality repairs, plus you know who is doing the repairs because they do it at that shop unlike progressive.   Progressives concierge service takes the cars to a central location and then gives them out to the shop with the lowest bid.

BTW i am a claims adjuster for another company that will remain unammed but am insured w/ GEICO.

No, these LKQ parts were not quality of any kind.  The owner of the body shop is a friend of mine, so he lets me help out on some of the meaningless work like sanding, to help reduce costs.  We were working on a 2000 Trans Am that had a front impact.  The new nose they sent looked good on the outside, but when you flipped it over and looked in the inside, it had a hole patched with a cut up sprite can that was fiberglassed in.  It appeared the original vehicle this came off of ran into a trailer hitch.  The Geico claims adjuster said it was good to go.  We made sure it didnt line up and told him it would not work, granting us authorization to order new parts.  My insurance company approves new OEM parts from the very beginning.  Every body part for my vehicle comes straight from GM.  I do not allow any of the ill fitting Taiwanese knock-offs or any refurbished/repaired parts to be used as a cost savings for the insurance company.  Talk to your body shop, most have a report that constantly lists the insurance companies into different classes depending on your area.  In my area, Geico was rated D as in the lowest rating you could get.

Then the parts supplier or the body shop fucked up.  The adjuster has no say in what specific part goes on a car, they just denote on the estimate that LKQ or aftermarket parts are available to use.  the shop orders the part and gets it delivered.  or the shop wanders out to the back 40 acres and pulls another part off.  If your shop operates off the pick in pull principle, that puts their quality of operations as highly suspect.  The fact that the shop pulled the part off a junker they have and did not order it from a reputable supplier shows that shop is shady practices to increase their bottom likne.  NO Top tier body shop pulls spare parts directly off another car.   The adjuster (and therefore the insurance company) has NO say on specifically what part goes on a car  and no reputable insurance company would put a part on a car like that.   Not the insurance companys fault on that one.

+ 40,000 on this one.... the shop let someone who is not covered under their policy or has (I assume)  no accreditied training or certifications work in the shop?  once again... puts the shop into question, not the insurance company...

ETA: if anyone wonders why i seem a bit passionate about this subject?  I hear so much shit talked about how insurance goes to screw people over and i get tired of it, so i take any opportunity to give someone the other side of the picture if i can.
