I don't have a lot of debt, about $10k right now. I am, however, unsure of how secure my job is right now at the RR in Nashville. We've cut a LOT of jobs and positions in the last 2 weeks and there's more coming. None have affected what I do, but that doesn't mean anything right now.
I'm kicking around selling my precision rifle rig to pay off the last of my student loan and some of credit card/army debt if I can get enough. My wife doesn't want me to, because she knows I'd eventually want to buy another one, and I wouldn't be able to do any F-class shoots in Tullahoma, TN with no stick. In my mind it's being responsible with dark clouds on the horizon to offload some gear to get rid of some debt, but the selfish side of me absolutely loves that stick. I've had it built gradually over 2 or 3 years to get it where it's at today. So, what say you? Be resposible, man up and sell the rifle to make life easier for all, or keep the rifle and keep trudging through the bills that aren't really killing us, but are still a burden? |

I just found out I'm getting axed end of February - I say any port in a storm. I'm going to put a few of my firearms up for sale in a week. I just want to be sure that in a market where there are very few jobs - that I can hold out as long as possible.
We have to responsible in a land where the .gov has shown none. |

If you can, get an extra job to pay that stuff off. Your not the only one with some debt right now. I dont really care about the debt because if it gets really bad, I will just file bankruptcy. ![]() Yup. Sell plasma if you have to. Most places pay $60/week, cash... Check your local gun store/sport's store and see if you can get a part time gig on the weekends. Whore yourself out man, do whatever it takes to keep your family financially sound, but look at other income avenues before selling what sounds like one of your favorite sticks. |

Under no circumstance should you sell off firearms to temporarily decrease your debts.
Keep the rifle. Buy as many more as you can reasonably afford NOW. What you sell for now will not even approach what you'll have to pay in the future to acquire another. Never ever sell firearms. |

Under no circumstance should you sell off firearms to temporarily decrease your debts. In general I agree. However, if someone is willing to pay 50% more than what you paid... Put it on gunbroker.com with a high reserve, and see what people will pay. The Arfcom EE is good, but the buyers here are much more informed and generally offer less. Get another job, buy stuff in bulk to sell on E-bay, etc. etc. I mean, my med school friend makes $2K a month in extra income selling camera lens covers on E-bay. Buy em at 1 cent a pop from China, sell em at $3 each. |

Yes, it's a bolt gun. It's a custom 700 .308.
I have a very good income:debt ratio that I haven't even considered bankruptcy. I pay over the minimums and snowball the debts I pay off. I'm talking to a friend about a possible part time job, but with my work schedule I don't think it's realistic for him to hire me to cover the hours he needs covered. I have no kids or house payment and the cars are paid off, but they're going to need to be replaced sooner rather than later (Pontiacs with >130k). I'm not rushing into this, just a new situation for me to be in and I'm trying to get advice. I'm also kicking around re-upping in the Guard to get the bonus and deploy in Oct. with my old unit, but that's only really an option the day after I get the pink slip. I appreciate the advice fellas. |

I would do whatever I could to keep the rifle. It would be one thing if it was an run or the mill AR or the like. But when its a precission rig you built over the course of several years, I would say selling it is a last resort, if an option at all. |

I wouldn't sell a firearm until and unless I absolutely had to. Until then, I'd cut expenses as much as possible and funnel every spare dime into knocking down that debt. And then, when it was gone, all of that money I'd been living without would go to savings, retirement, etc. |
| I've considered selling a couple of my AR's and pistols. As is,the price of AR's is so inflated that I could sell high, order a replacement that I just need to wait for,not effectively lose a gun and still make $.The same is true with some pistols that are now worth more used than I purchased them for.I look at them and think " Do you _really_ need 4 AR's or 6 9mm's right now?".Of course I'll have sellers remorse but I won't be poorly armed and could look on the brighter side of other shooters using them more than me. |

Sell it if it means you can save a substantial amount of money on interest payments. Especially if it is a Bolt action rifle unlikely to be banned.
It really depends on how much you can get for it though. I know that typically, the ROI is not very good for that type of rifle. If you are looking at taking a big loss on it, you would be better off keeping it unless things get more desperate. |
