| Correct me if I am wrong. A 2 3/4 chamber on an 870 can be changed to a 3" by simply swapping the barrel? Or is that something that is unpossible? |

Long answer and I will probably not say it very well but here goes.
If you have a "Magnum" receiver and a barrel chambered for 3" shells you can shoot 2 3/4" or 3" shells. If you have a "Magnum" receiver and a barrel chambered for 2 3/4" shells you can only shoot 2 3/4" shells. If you do not have a Magnum receiver and have a barrel chambered for 3" shells it is not safe to shoot 3" shells and you should only shoot 2 3/4" shells. If you do not have a Magnum receiver and have a barrel chambered for 2 3/4" shells you should only shoot 2 3/4" shells. You can spot a Magnum receiver by seeing the "M" as the last number in your serial number. |

Just checked my SN and it does have a M at the end but it came with a 2 3/4 barrel. So if I find a deal on a 3" slug barrel, then I should jump on it, hey? Why do you want to shoot 3" slugs? I find the 2 3/4 "ers ouchie enough? ![]()
But, unlike everyone else on ARFCOM I'm not a high speed operator. I have, however, shot my 870s a lot. |

What's the difference b/w the mag receiver and the standard receiver? A Magnum receiver has an "M" on it. Standard receivers don't say "M". The Remington engineer gurus know the difference. It amounts to nothing more than the ejector. Change the ejector on a non magnum gun to one from a magnum gun and you can shoot 3" just fine(ONLY from a 3" chambered barrel though). |
