I don't know how many of those just add their own rollmarks to other company's parts.

But it still looks like more private companies make AR's than any other rifle, pistol or shotgun. The only one that I think comes close are the (10) companies that were making M-1 Carbines during WWII, and the others that were making commercial Carbines after WWII.

1911's would most likely lead in pistols, with SAA's next.

Shotguns? Maybe 870's?

Are you including former makers? Like FN doesn't make any civilian AR receivers do they? But they are in the list.

If you include former makers, you'll get some like GM Hydromatics.

can we get some sort of notation of manufacturers who actually manufacture their own receivers, vs ones who just stamp their name on blanks made by someone else?

I know (or am at least pretty sure) the list is pretty short of companies who actually make their own

-Colt
-Armalite
-Bushmaster
-Olympic (?)
-Rock River
