Woman Arrested in OTR Gun Network Bust

A local woman faces a three-count federal indictment for helping set up a gun distribution network in Over-the-Rhine.

Police say Jennifer Reynolds would buy and give weapons to Christopher Godby to sell on the streets of the troubled neighborhood. A drug trafficking conviction prevents the 23-year-old man from purchasing the products, himself. But, the "fool-proof" plan fell through on Saturday.

A string of recent shootings, coupled with the riots from April, have made the area a hotbed of crime.

What I beleive will probably be the ultimate outcome is that the Legislature soon will pass a CCW bill and Taft will veto it citing opposition from the FOP and State Troopers.

If the overall public support for CCW is there, I have a feeling that Taft will take the politically safe route and allow any final legislation to become law without his signature.

A favorable ruling by his honor sure couldn't hurt things.
Might help persuade that knucklehead Taft.

The judge could have come out of his kidnapping experience two very different ways:

1 (good for us) "If I had a gun, they never would have kidnapped me."

2 (bad for us)  "If they didn't have guns, they never would have kidnapped me."

Has he said anything on the record about it?

Tia Ruehlman, now 47, acknowledges that a gun probably wouldn't have helped her overcome her assailant, who is currently serving up to 25 years for kidnapping, aggravated robbery and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

But she said she is firmly in the camp of those who think Ohioans ought to be able to arm themselves against crooks.

"I've thought about this a million times," she said.

"Personally, I feel a law-abiding citizen should be able to get a registered handgun for their own personal protection," she said.

Yes, she said, the judge knows about her opinions.

"I could never influence him, though," she said. "And he isn't consulting me for advice."

Horseface Bob will NEVER sign it,Not as long as the FOP and the OHP tell him no,Bob we think it's not a good idea! Horseface Bob may not know it, but he's losing alot of support in the republican party,I'd be willing to bet you could run a german shepard against him in the next election, and the dog would win!Sadly, this opens the door to the demo-commies, and most who are mulling over running for Gov. are very anti gun, If the republican party is smart they'll back someone else from their own party and let Ol'Horseface Bob run on his own merits (which aren't many) Let's face it, Horseface Bob screwed his own party, us gunowners, and the rest of the state of Ohio,If us gunowners here in Ohio are smart, we'd better find someone else in the republican party to run for Gov.Screw Bob!

Guys... the issue about HB 274 is over. They (Ohio House) had their chances and now the ruling (assuming that the judge rules against the current law banning CCW) is going to create a defacto Vermont style CCW - meaning that if you can legally own a gun, you can legally carry concealed w/o any permit. Striking the law will eliminate the existing ban.

Of course, the Ohio House can enact some other legislation, but the court ruling will already be against a total ban on CCW so any future legislation will be easier to overturn if it encroaches.

It is going to be a good day all around because one way or another CCW will be permitted in Ohio.

Don't hold your breath for that.  If anything, it'll just speed along some real "shall-issue" type of legislation.

Remember that although Ohio is generally a conservative state and not a bad state for gun ownership, the socialists are very strong in the most populous counties.

I have to agree with most of you. A positive ruling will most likely help us, but I am not convinced we should not hold our breath. If the Vermont style CCW happens it will quickly be contested. Taft will have a shit fit.

I hope I am wrong, please please let me be wrong. I would love any good CCW laws as long as they are Shall Issue. The vermont style will be oh so grand if we get it.

Go get 'em Chuck.

I lived in South Carolina for a few years and their CCW program is growing in leaps and bounds.  You pay $50-$100 for 8 hours of training and practice with an NRA or law enforcement instructor, are finger printed, your photo is taken, a background check is done and within 90 days you get what looks like a second drivers liscense, only it's your CCW permit.  Even before the CCW law was inacted, they were allowed to keep a gun in the glove compartment of their cars, by law.  Most of the people I knew, carried pistols legally on a daily basis.  I hope now that I've moved back to Ohio, that we are given CCW priviledges as well.  Being disarmed out of political correctness can be suicidal in this day and age!
