It seems like everything they do is something the army could do or fullfill with the AF's funding, probably less.

Do you actually know all of the different facets the Air Force fulfills?

The Air Force used to be the 'United States Army Air Force' (USAAF).

Well, it began as the Army Air Corps and apparently somebody thought they were important enough to justify their own branch of the US Armed Forces.  Are you suggesting that these people either didn't know what they were doing or somehow made a mistake?

Air superiority, Strategic airlift, refueling, intelligence collection, cyber warfare and surface to air defense. Also I think they have control over the ICBM's also correct?

Air Force is to the Army
as the Marines are to the Navy
The .GOV got tired of the bitching so they gave them their own branch to shut them up.

Another quick question, which if any branch did you serve? Obviously couldn't get into the the Air Force. Air Force is TWO words not ONE as stated in the thread title.

Was this before or after Teddy Roosevelt's last stand with the 300 Spartans against the Provisional IRA in Apache helicopters?

Because the Air Force and the Army do completely different jobs and work in a completely different environment. As a result they need to be separate branches.

I haven't, It just seems excessively costly and redundant. Every branch of the .MIL has their own air ops, yet there is one branch dedicated to air ops? Would it make sense if the army, air force and marines all had their own surface fleets too?

You haven't? No shit there. Dont try to start shit on something you know nothing about. Go take a fucking grammer class and quit trying to debate our PROUD and SUCCESSFUL MILITARY structure.

The Air Force strategic Air Command kept the Russians ass's puckered for 40 years.

Because during WWII it became obvious the Air Force had it's own tactical purpose and mission and was too big to remain part of the Army so the National Defnse Act of 1947 officially seperated them form the Army command system.

Technically speaking and some Marines will get pizzed at me for pointing it out.

THERE ARE ONLY TECHNICALLY THREE SERVICES.4 If you count the Coasties.

The Marine Corps is actually part of the Navy, not a seperate service branch.
