From the time you double click on the web browser icon (IE, Firefox, Opera or whatever), how long does it take for your home page to appear and get fully set to go?
I've got a Comcast cable connection, and have actually recently upgraded to a package that increases overall speed. From my laptop, however (with its constantly fluctuating "signal strength"), it take the better part of a minute, sometimes closer to a minute and a half. Pages take forever to load. The main computer, the desktop, is faster but goes through a funk here and there as well. After a recent cable outage about three weeks ago, our internet failed to return after thing in our area had been fixed. A technician came out, fixed some wires that, out of frustration, one of us had put back wrong trying to remedy the situation ourselves (Doh!). It was during this time that he tested things like connection speed and such, and informed us that everything looked good. But this isn't a new problem. The computers both seem so ridiculously bogged down at times that I'm tempted to take a sledgehammer to them. What really kills me on the laptop is when I open a second tab on Firefox––once I do that things go from mediocre to horrific. Especially when I'm trying to upload pictures to Photobucket. The computer doesn't freeze, it just slows to a point that I have to punch it a few times (which actually works once or twice) and then ultimately decide to Restart or Shut Down. I have AVG Virus Scanner, Ad Aware, a few cleaners such as Glary Utilities and CCleaner, and run Disk Defrag regularly. What's up? Does the internet itself simply have slow days when more users are online? Are there tools I should download? Tools that do not mesh well with others? Again ... what's up? What can I do. |
