Does anybody here have or like the I-Phone?
Do you like the AT&T service or would you wish that APPLE allowed other carriers? |
|
I'm thinking about getting one next month when I get an upgrade discount, maybe.
I like them but they don't have a user changeable battery (you'll have to send it in and get ass raped for a new one) and I'm sure the bigger screen shortens the battery life considerably. I'm gonna have to think real hard on it. |
|
I have one. I'm not a gadget geek. I generally don't buy shit like that and I go with the 'free' phone. But, my employer is footing the bill so I have one. Nifty, and I get the appeal, I just don't actually feel like I'm better-equipped for the world or anything else that would justify the price tag. Syncing with my work calendar is pretty nifty though, and will probably save my ass in the future when I forget about a meeting. |

Quoted: well being able to VPN into my work network then look at my server via RDP. Is way major cool.. And I have an ICMP pinger, SSH client, and DNS resolver on mine, which is cool, just not worth the cost to me. I wouldn't own it if I had to pay the bill is I guess what I'm saying. |
| I have a 3G and it's a badass phone. I get dropped calls sometimes but other than that the service is ok too. Contrary to what most people say it's had a longer battery life than any other phone I've ever used. Best phone on the market if you ask me, but the haters will dispute that. |
| The Battery will last forever aslong as you never use it.. Using it is a different story, I like it.. Its great to be able to Download apps on the go and semi full internet experence(No flash support atm). Becareful with it, I broke my screen the otherday and it fell 2 feet onto carpet. It was another $200 for a new phone to replace the broken one.. |

Have a black berry Have a BES I will stick to my blackberry I dont really use it for remoting into any server, listen to music, uploading a video on youtube or anything like that. If you want to pay a shit load of money and have 15 minutes of battery life, have at it. |

I've wanted one but it's not worth it for me to downgrade from my Palm Treo 750 with Windows Mobile.
I would lose being able to shoot video, I would lose being able to send pictures in my text messages, I would lose the ability to cut/copy/paste, I would lose the ability to open, edit and save word and excel docs and spreadsheets, I would lose the ability to view flash video, I would lose the ability to download and save files on my phone, I would lose the ability to browse files on my phone, I would be limited to only 16GB of space. I think that covers the majority of it. I do love the iPhone for some reason but I use all of the things I listed above and can't afford to lose them. Besides that my phone can do pretty much everything the iphone can but may not be as slick in doing it. |

AT&T is a no go in Colorado, so I went with a Ipod Touch instead, which is great where there is wifi. How so? I use AT&T and get decent coverage in the mountains - sometimes getting calls in the weirdest places, like while out on a stream with a fly-rod or shooting in backwoods areas. Not that I want calls when doing things like that. Also, doesn't AT&T have a sharing agreement with other carriers that allows us to use other networks free of charge? Either way, the iPhone 3G is great. I love having full internet in my pocket - no flash though. I can't tell you how many times I've used it to force a store to price-match a competitor - just pull up the page, show them the price and get the same deal right there. |

Step 1: Get a Blackberry Step 2: Thank me later This. By the way, I have a Samsung Saga...and as a phone, it's very good...as a device that I need to have specific applications on to do my daily business, it sucks ass. Blackberry and Apple are already geniuses at the user friendliness of writing applications that function reliably and with a high degree of security. Blackberry is superior because of all the carriers that offer Blackberry devices. |

Cycorder allows video to be shot, Finder allows file browsing and management, and you can view excel/word files. Not having those features in a stock phone is an abomination though. I think Apple is trying hard to make sure all the SD is controlled by them and they are real tightwads. I really like my phone. THe ability to watch movies, even stream them from my computer to phone is frikken cool. Also I have got it set up to tether to a laptop if need be. I think overall the iPhone will eventually prove to be more versatile than other phones, just apple has to figger out how to make a buck on the deal first. |

AT&T service in my area is good. I get excellent signal at home, and even get good 3g reception.
I had the original iPhone, and it was OK... the interface was/is beautiful. The form factor is awesome (I just drop it in my front pocket and hardly know it's there). It was not loud enough, and was next to useless in even a lightly crowded area. The 3G iPhone is much better. The App Store is great, it greatly increases the functionality of the phone. The volume is much better. The GPS has saved me once already (got lost NE of Austin after breaking off from a group on a ride... pulled over, found where I was and found my way home). |

They make battery pack "sleeves" that you can slide the phone into that almost doubles the battery life. |

I pooped in anger for those few minutes..... $300 later I made sure to have it in a non-slip silicone sleeve. |

If you want to pay a shit load of money and have 15 minutes of battery life, have at it. Grade A bullshit. Downloading/surfing/video is what really kills the battery and I do enough of those 3 things to result in an almost $4k per month bill if I didn't have the unlimited plan. The battery is quite adequate. |

I just got an iPhone 3G in November to replace my HTC 8525 (which also had 3G). To put it simply, the iPhone simply blows the HTC away in every single category except ease of keyboard use (and it isn't far behind there). I love my iPhone, single best piece of gear I have bought in years.
As for battery life, I use mine as an iPod about six hours a day, use it to surf the Internet maybe another 30 minutes or so and text/make calls on it five or six times a day. I have to hook it up to the charger when I get home at night; but it lasts me a day's use most of the time and only once have I ever gotten it down into the blinking red "must have power now!' zone. I also like how I can link it up with Microsoft Exchange at the office and it updates automatically all the time with my work calendar and mailbox - no more syncing or any of that B.S. - if I make a change on my computer it is on my iPhone. If I make a change on my iPhone, it is on my computer - immediately. The nastiest things I can think to say about it is that sometimes when using it as a phone my face hits the touch screen and activates some function I didn't mean to do (also happened with HTC 8525) and that the touch screen typing is a little crowded and my fingers are far from fat. It is a bazillion times more reliable than my HTC which, like many Windows products, was prone to certain functions randomly ceasing to work until the phone had been turned on and off again. I don't even know how to turn the iPhone off - haven't ever needed to yet. |

If you want to pay a shit load of money and have 15 minutes of battery life, have at it. There's no way you'll kill the battery in 15 minutes. I also have a BlackBerry from work, but I don't really use it. It's battery will last about a week. With the iPhone, if I leave 3G off and don't do too much, maybe only take a few calls, look at a few emails, listen to an hour or so of music, the battery will still be at about 60% after a full day.... meaning I COULD get about 2 days out of it. I would recommend that if you get an iPhone, plan on plugging it in every night. It's not a huge hassle, geeze. |

I got one when my old phone wasn't cutting it when I was trying to use it to check for news updates or email. The iPhone does everything I want it to do superbly (make/take calls, text, email and web surfing).
3G eats up battery life. I keep chargers at home, at work and in the car. I can easily go all day surfing/watching TV/listening to music/playing games during the day plus an hour or so of talk time and then I need a charge. The battery tends to go down faster than my old phone but I know it's because I'm using it more. No Flash support is a bummer. MMS also. But you know it's coming. And not having it is hardly a deal killer. I don't like the AT&T network. Too often I've had dropped calls or no service when I'm just a little bit off the beaten path. The 3G network could be a bit bigger too. The Verizon network I came off of was much better about having more bars in more places. If I had this phone on Verizon, it'd be just about perfect. It's the easiest bit of high tech out there to use, it's fast, it's multifunctional (why carry an iPod when you have a 16GB phone?) and it's damn cool. FWIW, I tried a couple of Blackberries and couldn't stand them at all. I found the user interface too busy and not at all intuitive to use. I figured out how to do everything on the iPhone pretty damn easy. I spent 5 minutes with the Blackberry Storm trying to figure out how to get to the web browser and enter a URL. That's BS. |

You have to step up to a data plan to use any comparable smart phone, and they're all about 30 bucks a month.
Otherwise you're paying by the kB and that gets expensive pretty damn fast. IIRC the Verizon charge for no data plan is 2 cents per kB. I can tell you it adds up fast. Even with dumbed-down mobile versions of webpages (that suck to navigate, BTW). |

If jailbroken kill the edge and SSH services as well. When using it playing games or surfing constantly I get about 6 hours out of it. Considering the screen and other drains on resources I though it was pretty thrifty energy wise. You can't hardly get a laptop or a portable video player to run that long. |

I've heard of jailbreaking and have spent a ton of time the past few days looking into it. This may be the answer even though I still don't see a copy and paste option. I'm starting to lean back toward the iPhone and the first thing I would do is jail break the thing. Thanks |

Does anybody here have or like the I-Phone? Do you like the AT&T service or would you wish that APPLE allowed other carriers? I am extreemly pleased with mine. I get great battery life (3G) with mine... The key is to turn off the features you are not using (PUSH, location services, bluetooth, etc) and turn down your brightness to 25% of so. I get 6hrs of use and 3days of standby out of mine... I use the internet a lot. Apple says the battery doesn't need to be broken, fuck them. I ran it up to a full charge when I first got it and ran it down until it shut itself off (turn everything on) three times when it was new and I get great battery performance. The Location services (ie: GPS) will burn your batt down in nothing flat. I really love my phone. Apple has GOT to add MMS and their are rumors of a big update in Jan that will add it. FWIW: I know people who have BlackBerrys and I'm not real impressed and they love my phone... Though I do think the BB shines as a business tool, while the iPhone is more of an everyday useful toy. Buy the Conture Case Hardshell for it. The Google Maps feature is FULL of win and now has streetview. |
