Hi all.

I have family in the US, my cousin has just heard that her boyfriend has been shot by a sniper in Iraq.

I won't give out his name or branch of service, but he is US Mil.

He has been flown to Germany to a hospital over there, I heard he was hit in the head.

Please pray for him and all brave serice men and women out there.

PS, I would like to try and find out more on his condition, my cousin is frantic and her and his family are not getting much info, is there anyway I can search for more information on his status?

Hi all.

Thanks for the prayers.

I've just been advised that he died about an hour ago.

He was shot in the head about 11 o clock Tuesday (I don't know if that was Iraq time or New York time, sniper got him)

He was flown to Germany and I believe that's where he died.

He was just 22 and a fellow South African, I never met or knew him, but if my cousin liked him he must have been a pretty good bloke.

From the pictures of him on my cousins Face book page he must have been a machine gunner on an APC (Styker?) or some such, sorry, I am not familiar with fighting vehicles

Thanks again for the well wishes and may God be with all fighting men and women out there.

You'd think that after 4,500 of these, we'd've figured out what to say.

Our thoughts are with your cousin and the rest of her boyfriend's family, of course, and with the families and loved ones of all the others who have suffered for our freedoms.

That these incidents are becoming much less frequent in Iraq doesn't make any of them any less tragic.

I sympathize with the sentiment, but I think there's a broader point here.

This man's death was not in vain.  Iraq *is* becoming more stable through the hard work of our men and women.  And our presence there will very likely bring stability to an entire region that daily threatens the advance of civilization, and help secure significant control over a dominant source of oil in a world that is ever only months away from an energy crisis.

But those are just details.  Whether you support or oppose our presence in Iraq, the numbers bear out that our men and women are accomplishing something for their sacrifice, and that is yet one more reason to honor them.
