| They have to take out Hamas so they can bomb Iran. Iran has said if they are attacked they will unleash Hamas and they will rocket fire Isreal. Isreal doesn't want to be bothered by Hamas if it might possibly be in a war with Iran over its nuclear capabilities so they need to clear the way now because we all know Obama will do nothing to help their cause out when he assumes office. |
|
Obama might project a change in tone, if only to preserve his honeymoon appeal with the Arab nations, but I imagine, like most US foreign policy, there will be little real change. Obama is definately a factor, but the Israeli elections are probably more of a factor.

Short of nukes, can Israel even repel a major attack these days?
The rabbi I spent Shabbos with (who served in Shaldag) sure seems to think your question is funny too... -Ben Hezbellah kicked their ass. Just sayin. This is why they are determined to crush Hamas now, to show the Arab world they can still kick ass and take names. Hezbellah will be a bigger problem than Hamas if Israel and Iran got at it. |

And there is no "The hezzies kicked our ass" here in Israel. People literally laugh at CNN and other news stations that make things out that way. I was talking to a nice young woman the other day who just about laughed out loud when someone mentioned turning on CNN...she said "GNN? The Goyim News Network? It is all lies, who cares what it says?" Ahhh! A woman after my own heart! -Ben |

Only because they didn't have the political will to win the fight. Both sides have political leaders and political factions that have too much invested in their own agendas to let peace happen uninterrupted. |

How can you not have the political will to annhilate people that want to drive you into the sea and kill every man, woman, and child in israel? Benjamin Netanyahu is the only man that gets it. If he was back in charge, problem solved. |

1967 DOES seem very distant to most of them. That said, you are right, it was politics in 2006, and politics alone. IDF is top notch, and if the leash is taken off (for example...Bibi calling the shots) then there is no chance for anyone in their way. -Ben I'm by no means saying the israelis can't fuck up like five countries at once. They have some nice toys and really, when it comes down to it, losing is truly not an option. I just wish they's end it once and for all. They've tried to make peace, the other side doesn't want it. There's only one way to deal with people like that. |
