I recently filled up my hard drive.
There were all kinds of problems with the Windows operation anyway.

So, I copied all my files onto an external hard drive. I installed a new hard drive in the computer and installed a brand new copy of Windows XP on it.
How can I uninstall the windows files off of the external drive. It doesn't hurt anything other than take up space but I would like to get closure by just doing away with it.

Dont listen to idiots.

Just find the files and delete them.

It wont affect the new Windows install.

you will have to go through and find your files and seperate them from the windows junk.

really no other way i mean it should be safe to delete "windows" but you might have had some crazy program that saved stuff in there.

Google "DBAN".....boot and nuke, burn to a cd. Put the drive in the pc (the only drive in it) and boot to the pc. It will wipe the drive clean.

If its on the old HDD, just delete what you dont want.... Nothing is tied to the new HDD. Well, unless you installed something and pointed it to the old HDD

I don't think he wants to reformat.

what I got is his windows was fubar so he just copy and pasted the entire C: drive to the external drive and now he wants to get rid of all the unnecessary files that are on the hard drive with his porn collection.

This eveidently wasn't as clear as it seems to me.

The old drive is in the landfill.

I copied the whole contents of the old drive onto an external drive including the old copy of Windows. I then threw the old drive away: it has nothing to do with anything.

I installed a NEW drive in the computer and a NEW copy of Windows from a NEW cd onto it. It has nothing to do with the old drive or the old copy of Windows.

Now I have an external hard drive that has an old corrupted copy of Windows on it. I would like to clean it off just because.

AHHHH@@@@!!!!

lots of bad info in this thread@@@@!!!!

just delete the windows and program files folders on the external drive, leave the documents and settings or users folder.

Its simple. Just delete the shit and keep what you want.  Any windows files on the external drive are not linked to the systems operation anymore.

Done.

"Deltree \windows"

"deltree \program files"

you will need to be on a CMD screen to do this.

deltree /? will offer up the help file to explain useage

You don't know the power of the dark side... unless you work in cmd alot.

BTW be sure your working on the correct drive volume - or Deltree will work only once.
