Are there any 28 year old Army Majors that you know of?  Seems young to me.  Someone is telling me they know one.

Maybe at 30 or 31. 28 sounds kind of young.

Major is normally pinned on after 10 years and 1 month of commissioned service, 28 years old is generally too young, normally for a non-prior service member it is around 31-32.

Sounds young, but I know a 21 year old 1st LT, and an E-6 with less than 7 years in the Army...
18 months time in grade to 1Lt, 2 years to Cpt, 2-3 more to Maj. Come in as an 20 year old with 2-3 years college, go OCS, be in the right place, right time, make all the right decsions on deployments, and in training....it's plausable, but thin....

The GWOT has accelerated the promotions officer and EM alike. More than a few 22 year old E-5's running around.....I couldn't see why it wouldn't translate to the officer side.

I ETS'd before the GWOT and didn't think about that. Thanks for your service.

Officer promotions are based on DOD promotion flow points, they mandate 10 years commissioned time in service for selection to O4.

It's down to less than 10 now.

I'm trying to find the exact figure, but I remember it being an issue of some surprise at the Captain's Course that people were becoming eligible for MAJ so quickly now.

I'm unfamiliar with military rank advancement, but if a chaplain or doctor entered the army as a captain at ~24-25 years old, could they earn a single promotion in 3 years?

Medical or Chaplaincy are the most likely ways.  Automatic O3.  Then 5 years to Major.
NMI grads might get it done, as they are commissioned as early as 19.  I won't say its impossible, just improbably.
Lucy got some splainin' to do.

Depends on the branch, a basic branch officer very unlikely, special branches.... A medical Dr. who has completed his/her residency can direct commsion as a Major. Most Drs come in a Captains and complete their residency in a Army hospital. Chaplins and JAG often come in as Captains and could possibly make Major by 28 if selected below the zone.

MDs do enter service as Capts, but because of time complete medical school and at a minimum their internship that would make them 26-27 years, from there they would need a minimum TIG minimum of 3 years.

Chaplains normally enter service with some type of masters or PHD in divinity, their promotions are actually slower than most others.  There was a case in the recent past of Navy Chaplains suing for the fact that they were promoted slower and according to their faith group.

Lawyers don't enter service at a higher rank, what you sometime see is they are commissioned while attending law school so they start out as 1stLt or Capts.
