My Hard drive crashed and on it was my iTunes library.  Buying and installing the new hard drive was easy enough but all the content on my iPhone is now stranded isn't it?  I did some research on the web and it seems that unless I had the presence of mind to format my iPhone differently from the get go then there is no way to extract the content.

Help!!

Basically you are correct.. the best advice I can offer you is to next time keep your music on an external hard drive and save your Itunes play list on the same drive also...

I have at least 40 custom playlist on my itunes, My hard drive crashed and I lost them all. I when to the an external hard drive and backed up my playlist in the itunes folder and when I upgraded my PC I moved the folders over and everything was back the way I wanted to be.

Hope this helps..

I know there is software to remove the contents off of an iPod, but I don't know if it works for an iPhone.

I know.  I have always avoided Apple anything but bought the Iphone on a whim this past year.  As far as backing things up goes I always back up the really important stuff, its just that I lost all my "It's always sunny in Philadelphia"
