Yesterday i was stuck at a red light and noticed a full sized fire truck parked at a red curb (no parking zone) outside of Starbucks. Then one firefighter after another started walking out of Starbucks with their pepperment mochas and lattes

Are the really allowed to park in a red zone during a coffee break?

Well they could have been they on offical business doing a routeen building inspection and getting cofee as a side product.

Or they could just be parking where ever they wanted cause thay can and who would stop them.

I thought red curbs were there to keep other vehicles from parking where emergency vehicles need to park in an emergency?

a red zone is usually a fire zone isn't it?

Some lawyer arrested a cop for this and the charge stuck. No reason why you can't pull the same thing on a fireman.

So are they supposed to park a fire truck in a regular space?  And, if they do park with everyone else and there is a fire, do they all have to run back out to their truck to move it to the correct spot? Let's use a little logic.

The space is meant for emergency vehicles, the firemen are on duty, they are working their shift. They do go out in groups on the trucks to run to the store and so forthe and they do end up having to respond to calls even when they are out on those errands. That's just the way it is. I run into the stores when I am on duty and park my car in a fire lane. Why, b/c if there is a fire while I am there, I am going to have to park there anyway. Plus it is more visible for any low lifes in the area.

Don't about your states but in mine Red is a fire Hydrant Access area.

Seems to me that a Fire truck parking there would not be a problem as that is where they would hook the hydrant anyway if something does catch fire.

Better than taking up 16 regular customer spaces to park..

Cops do it a lot too though

50' forward of the red zone there was plenty of curbside parking.

Seems unethical to park in a red zone on break.

If someone wrote them a parking ticket, do you think the city would pay it?

I doubt firefighters just go around joy riding in a fire truck so I'd like to imagine they had reason to be in  the area

Sure they do. Not that I have a problem with that. Driving the truck around town to get grub or whatever is good training for the drivers and good PR for the city. People like to see the guys around.

The red zone is for emergency vehicles. They're in one. If there was an emergency, the firetruck would probably be the first response vehicle there anyway. What's the issue?

I am not a member or former member of a fire department and I think that they can park wherever the hell they like. Hell, They can park in front of my house if they like!

Who cares? For Fire/EMT...It'll save them the time they would've spent to start up the truck andmove it 50 feet  in the event the Starbucks they're in catches on fire! Really, who are they blocking...?

I've had a cop tell me once that emergency vehicles can park where they want, when they want, how they want. It's okay for them but we would get a ticket for it.

You obviously have never spent any time in my podunk little town. It's a running joke that the dept. takes the pumper truck out for joy rides, lunch, coffee, whatever. That sucker spends almost as much time cruising town as it does sitting in the firehouse.

Exactly.

The issue is that some members here have to have something to bitch about.

The police if there's an assault. The ambulance if someone chokes on their biscotti. EMS who are actually responding to a call as opposed to picking up coffee.

When firemen are on duty the are on duty regardless of what they are doing. Taking a shit and there's a fire.....pull up your drawers and run without even wiping.

FDNY (who work 24 hour shifts) are required to have a full crew with the rig at all times. That means when they need to get food for their overnight stay the rig goes out. If they get a call the stop what they are doing and respond.

The alternative is that they take a rig out of service when they need to send someone out in a POV.
