[ARCHIVED THREAD] - A Clockwork Orange (Page 1 of 3)

| Should I watch it? I have never seen it and put it on my netflix list a while back. Well it came in yesterday and I really have no interest to sit down and watch it. Is it a movie everyone should see or not? |
|
At the time it was released (1971, IIRC), it was considered a shocking and disturbing portrayal of society in decline.
Today, I am guessing it would appear much more quaint. But it is still an interesting and disturbing film, and a neat window on the late 60s and early 70s. Kubrick was a genius. |

Great movie, but I wouldn't watch it with a woman unless you now her very, welly welly welly well. One of the all-time greatest movies, exceeded in its "women hate it quotient" only by "Bloodsucking Freaks." Bloodsucking freaks is a classic! |

Quoted: Quoted: That movie is a must see. Once. After that, it becomes highly optional. ![]() Agreed. It's worth seeing if only to help you form an opinion of Stanley Kubrick's work. Personally I don't like Kubrick at all, but others consider him a legend. It also gives you a glimpse into the shabby state of our culture in the early '70s, considering it received four Oscar nominations including Best Picture. ![]() |

Is "Bloodsucking Freaks" the movie where the guy uses a power drill to drill a hole into a victim's skull, and then puts a drinking straw into the hole and starts drinking blood from it? Some movie had a scene like that, and was banned in about 14 countries for it. |

I find most people who don't like Kubrick movies fail to see everything that went in to the movie, or just like movies with simple plots that are easy to follow. For example if you see 2001 expecting to be titillated by explosions and lasers more like Star Wars then yeah, you're going to find it to be a long, boring movie.

Yep. And it also had a scene where a naked chick is holding her guillotine rope in her teeth while a midget spanks her. Gotta' love it...

That movie is a must see. For those under 35 though might be a bit tough as there's no CGI. Ha! The real clincher, though, is that Kubrick didn't run around with the camera so everything is all fast and shaky like you're watching through the eyes of someone in the throes of a Gran Mal seizure. |

I see we have some Transformers fans checking in.... I love people who can't deal with the fact others don't share their opinions on trivial things
It's actually pretty funny you mentioned that, because Transformers kicks all sorts of ass. But the greatest movie of all time is..................... Wait for it.................. It's coming............................ http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v70/ZakkWylde470/normal_dr_strangelove01.jpg Sorry, A Clockwork Orange just fucking sucks. lol the funny thing is, I thought Transformers was awesome, but it did lack a lot in the story department but it didn't need it. I think A Clockwork Orange is amazing and found strangelove to be "meh" |

Gotta give props to Strangelove too Everything Kubrick did was some of the very best of filmmaking. Except, I guess, Eyes Wide Shut which was wierd and stupid - even though he didn't really edit that movie. It was stinker. 2001 is one of the best films of all time. Lolita. The Shining. FMJ. My favorite is Barry Lyndon, though. Alot of folks didn't think it was all that great, but I loved the story. |
