A lady friend of mine got a new job.  She gets off work at 11:00pm on an empty 3rd floor parking lot.  She's scared every time she goes to her car alone.  I suggested for her to use mace for protection.  Any advice on what she could protect herself with besides CCW.  She's scared of guns too. Also what would be a good brand of mace.

Thanks in advance for your advice and input.

An air taser would be ridiculous for self defense.

Fox would be the best choice in my opinion.

First - be sure to check the laws of your State. Some states regulate what percentage a non LEO can carry.

Second - I'm sure there is now something better but when I was in uniform we carried Freeze +P. It was moderately effective as long as the person getting sprayed wasn't doped up.

The wife carries Fox Labs five point three, in the 2oz flip top.

Good stuff.  I carry one as well.

I've tried Fox 5.3 and Freeze+P.  Fox seemed to be a bit more unpleasant.

OC is nasty stuff. I would rather be Tased, because of the decontamination period.

That said, it is VERY possible to fight through OC. One of my (very quotable) FTOs descri bed OC as "an excuse to stop fighting".

Tasers have that "on the ground right now" effect on even the most motivated subjects.

I wish there were some magic words to use on women who are more afraid of firearms than being assaulted.

Final Word: As always, the mind is the weapon. Nothing will help if she is behind the action/reaction curve. Situational awareness and all that.

Major +1

Some guys just don't give a shit/aren't effected by OC at all. I've seen a guy with OC dripping off his face onto his shirt who is MORE pissed cuz you stained his party shirt. As I recall, a few strikes of the baton to the thighs made him decide that fighting me wasn't a real good option.

If you carry OC you really have to carry a real weapon for those guys is just doesn't work on. BSW

Thanks to all for your tips and advice.  Ordered her the Fox 5.3 2oz fliptop online.  For now she got the Sabre red bought from Bass Pro Shop to use.  I tried the Sabre red before and that thing surely works but the spray pattern of the Fox Lab I watched on youtube looks good.

Thanks again. Appreciate your help.
