Friends don't let friends rely on Microsoft.

I love mine, utterly reliable. My g/f has one as well and she loves hers too. I haven't heard anything bad about them to be honest.

My former iPod on the other hand... sent back 3 times, each time telling me there was nothing wrong with it, yet each time it came home it would go black within 30 seconds just like before and not work! Fuck Apple. They finally sent me a new one after two months of sending it back. Never again...

They're pretty good. I had a Zune that served me well until I dropped it and the pause/stop/off button stopped working.

Though I would suggest going with a Creative Zen. Best portable audio player out there.

I really like listening to Public Radio. The zune has a built-in tuner (which works quite well), while the ipod does not.

However, the Ipod has many more accessories and industry support than the zune.

I got myself a Sansa Fuze 8GB player on Black Friday for $60-another $25 for an 8GB chip and it will be a 16GB player.

Very simple drag and drop functionality with no DRM shenanigans  (IIRC MS dropped support for Plays for Sure purchases); I'd buy another one if I could.

My wife has a Sansa and it's a great player with FM support built in.  Pretty cool - I don't like the scroll wheel her's has though.

I have a Toshiba Gigabeat and this is the coolest player ever.  larger screen and easy navigation - I use it all the time and deals can be had on these player - plus no DRM bull shit either.

I like mine...but I'm a shill, so my opinion doesn't count.

Uh, regular DRM-free and ubiquitous MP3's play just fine in iPods.  That is all I have.

It is too difficult for some to comprehend that just because you have an iPod doesn't mean you have to purchase your music through the iTunes online store?

Love my Zune, and with recent updates to their zune software, you can share your library with your Xbox, if it's hooked up to the home network.

This shows a good disparity

Also, don't overlook the other options in MP3 players, the Zune and Creative, etc... do give far more bang for the bucks than the iPod.

Zune MP3 Player Market Share Up to 4%; Creative Drops to 2%
Authored by Mark Hefflinger on May 12, 2008 - 11:12am.

Los Angeles - Microsoft's (NASD: MSFT) Zune digital media player gained a bit of the MP3 player market share in NPD Group's latest rankings, now accounting for 4% of the total market, up from 3% in the first quarter of 2007, Wired.com reported.

The Zune has now sold a total of 2 million units.

Apple's (NASD: AAPL) products still dominate with 71% of the market –– down from 72% a year ago –– while SanDisk (NASD: SNDK) claimed 11% and Creative 2% in the first quarter of the year.

A few months old, but look at the stats, Zune 4% of the market; iPods have 71%.

They wouldn't have such a good lead if they were all crap.

And before someone claims better marketing, Microsoft marketed Vista pretty well and look at it compared to XP.

There are TONS of after market products for iPods.

Even the Sync music system in Fords work with iPods or Zunes and it's a Microsoft product!

You were right in the cyber monday thread.  I'm getting a Fuze after Christmas to go with my Clip.

Stoney, get her any name brand (other than iPod) that has a minimum of 4-8GB storage capacity or an expansion slot.  Shouldn't cost more than $150 at its most expensive.
