I think doom 1 is shareware... or at least the first three levels, or something, anyways.

Doom 3 was awsome, it wore off its charm after the first time i beat it though. The first time i played it, i played in the dark with the volume blasting and I'll tell you what, some parts scared/startled the living fuck out of me....some shit in that game just aint right.

I was playing it the other day and my girlfriend came over after getting off work.  I had on my headphones and was really into the game and I didn't hear her come down the stairs.  I almost threw her over my shoulder when she touched me

Try ZDoom.

You'll need to find wad file to play. Once you have the wad file just drop it in the same folder as Zdoom and run the app.

If you're looking to play Doom and don't own the game you can either download the shareware version or user created content. If you're looking to play Doom 2 I suggest you do a Google search for "Doom 2 wad", of course if you don't own the game, downloading a copy of the wad is illegal.

I remember back when it first came out, people were making all kids of goofy mods... like you could turn some of the monsters into Barney and they'd even sing the little "I love you" song...

hilarious...

LOL, funny you should mention DOOM. Today I was wearing my DOOM 3 shirt that my sister got for free while working at Best Buy. 2 guys at Taco Bell say "sweet shirt" to me, and then at WalMart (yeah, TB then WM, what a day!
), a young hottie says she loves my shirt and asks me where I got it. When I wear it to work, my gamer buddy says "nice nerd shirt".

Anyway, I like Quake better then DOOM.
