When we lived in Tucson in the mid ‘70s, our cats came and went through a pet door I’d installed in the utility/handloading room. A stray started sneaking in and eating their food. We could never catch the little bugger, so I devised a plan.
I cut the outlet end off an extension cord, stripped the wires and separated them. Then I stapled them to the inside of the pet door. We locked our cats in the bedroom, plugged in the cord and waited. Pretty soon, we heard something come in the pet door and start on the food. As soon as I got up to investigate, there was the sound of small running paws followed by a screeching sound. When I got to the utility room, there was nothing but the faint odor of burnt fur. The stray never came back. |
