All people want to do is talk about guns when they see it on my hip... just leave me alone. MAN I LOVE ARIZONA!!! |
|
I have mixed feelings on it. I do it from time to time, but it's not often. It's a chicken and egg problem. I get more attention than I want, because people aren't used to seeing it. And I don't carry open that often, because I don't like the attention. If everybody did it, it wouldn't be a problem. But a lot of people don't want to, because they don't want the attention. Rinse, lather, repeat. |

Rinse, lather, repeat. That is exactly WHY you need to do it if you have the ability. If you don't use it, you lose it. In the 3 years I have OC'd since moving here, all the attention I have gotten has been positive and a few educational, ZERO negative reactions.. I have never noticed anyone giving me the LOOK either. Firearms should not be demonized, but we all hide them away from the public eye like we just got caught masterbating. To me this is a backwards step. |

Every time I cross the border into AZ my gun goes on my hip. The only looks I get are from other people with CA license plates, usually of the deer-in-headlights variety. I'll be traveling across AZ and NM on the way to OK, open-carrying all the way to the TX border. Too bad they probably won't pass any open-carry legislation in TX before I go... |

Let's face it. Open carry is saying look at me. Causes more problems than it's worth unless you're in an area where just about everyone open carries. yup, guns are a disease we need to hide away. You're right. Flaunting them is soooo much cooler. |
|
OC is not flaunting them, it's executing a constitutional right OPENLY instead of having it be a dirty little secret. I have no shame that i'm a gun owner, I just don't like to be hassled.

I flat out don't support open carry. I think it makes a lot of people nervous and paranoid and as long as you can carry a gun on you, I see no reason you have to look like John Wayne. My opinion and I believe I'm entitled to it. |

Saying your against open carry however affects others who chose to OC. please rephrase your thought process. |

The less paranoid and nervous they get, the less they are going to pass laws that limit our rights about something they know nothing about. |

i have yet to open carry but here in Georgia as long as you have your GFL you can do it and I have seen several people do it. I could care less if someone open carries or not, doesn't bother me the least bit. Maybe one these days i'll do it. I open carry all the time in Georgia. Of course I also carry with my Glock; an asp, two pairs of handcuffs, oc spray, taser (soon to carry), a radio, and 2 spare mags...... I can't open carry off duty though without having my badge displayed. I'm not going to display my badge in public when not on duty, so therefore I can't really open carry. |
| I don't know what the big deal is either. I do it here where possible but haven't had anybody striker up a conversation about the pistol on my hip. Guess there's not much too exciting about a revolver on a guy's hip here. I did have one guy comment on it - at a 7-11 Stop-N-Rob where I walked in with a Smith & Wesson 9mm - the clerk commented on it, but that was 20-years ago now. |

People who are AGAINST open carry are AGAINST civil liberty! mmmKay Civil liberties are freedoms that protect the individual from the government. (the right to bear arms.) bearing an arm openly is a justifiable and most easily way to bear an arm. |

Sometimes I do, sometimes I conceal. Here in UT you can OC an unloaded* firearm without a permit. If you get the concealed firearm permit you can now carry a loaded firearm and conceal it if you wish. most people aren't paying enough attention to notice. if they do, I bet they just assume that I am a cop or something. As an aside, if you do plan on carrying openly, look into getting a retention holster of some kind.
*UT defines an "unloaded firearm" as being 2 mechanical actions from firing. so for semi-auto pistols you can have an empty chamber and a loaded mag. Revolvers require that the cylinder under the hammer and the next in line to be empty. |

That nervousness and paranoia about guns is exactly why the left can call an AR an "assault weapon" and ban it. We should be doing everything we can to make people more comfortable around guns and not scared of an inanimate object. If OCing became routine, that's a huge step. |

You guys sounds like these people.. "who are you to judge me? I'm just expressing myself and my rights!!!!!" http://nitespyder.com/FatGothKid.jpg http://www.theonion.com/content/files/images/Gay-Pride-Parade.jpg Just keep in mind that you risk making people uncomfortable around you, you risk making yourself a target and you will be judged for your immediate appearance of having a firearm on your hip.. Wearing a pistol open carry does not "condition" the community to seeing it more often, therefore making it more acceptable. Two dudes making out at the end of my street every day is not going to change my mind about that being acceptable behavior. I put up with kids with Obama shirts and Stickers at school every day for nearly six months.. that didn't "warm me up" to the thought of Obama as president. CCW gives you more options than OC. That's why you carry, it gives you options.
No, but I bet you don't blink twice when a kid in an Obama shirt walks by. If you do something enough times, people stop caring about it. Just keep in mind that you risk making people uncomfortable around you
Sorry, I didn't know my rights were conditioned on other peoples "feelings." |
