If any of you folks have ammo on back order with these crooks, be aware that if the price goes up, they WON'T honor the price they quoted. They already charged my credit card for the merchandise I ordered and moved it back three times now. When I ordered it, they said it was in stock.  I called to see if they would substitute something of like quality at same price. Not only is that out of the question, but if they have an increase in the price of my back ordered ammo, they were planning to charge the higher price to my card.

Do yourself a favor and find some othe company to do business with.

Sorry to hear that, but I have ordered thousands of rounds from them and some even on backorder and they have never done that to me. Unless this is something they just started that I am not aware of. Heck I'm even a buyers club member, I buy so much shit its worth it to me.

Yea, I've had back order items from them also, never any problems. I've saved well over the price of the membership fee, and the four pay plan is great. Sorry to hear about your problems with them.

What ammo do you have on back order from them??  I was thinking of ordering some Brown bear I think, because it is still being shown in stock for $109 per 500rds, next week when I get paid.  Are you saying their website states in stock, but it is not??

It is great that you have not had trouble with back orders in the past. That was then...this is now. Ammo is going up by the week. They aren't paying any more for it, but the value of it is going up. Times are changing and Sportsmansguide is about the buck, not the customer.

Yes, items showing in stock on the web sight are not necessarily in stock. They said the web sight is not live updated, so items may be over sold. They informed me it is my fault I didn't verify it was in stock after ordering it...LOL. Not kidding. They actually make it out the customers fault. Then they charged my credit card even though they have it on back order. Why would I have reason to believe something is out of stock that I am charged for? I would have let them get away with that until they informed me back ordered items are not guaranteed the price sold at. Like I said...look out...they are about to do this to many folks with back ordered items...especially 7.62x39. They can get a 100 dollars more for a 1000 rds of it now than they could just three weeks ago.

This is their standard operation.  Did it to me about 4 years ago.  Between the time I ordered and it shipped, 6 hours, the price went up.  They charged me the new price and I didn't find out until the order arrived and I looked at the packing slip.  Didn't matter that I printed off the order page after I finished.  That showed the cheaper price.

They suck.  I don't buy anything from them anymore.

I've generally had good dealings with them but a month ago I got a bait-and-switch on Wolf .45 ACP sardine cans.  The price was still good but more than what they advertised.

I will never shop with them again. I purchased over 60 AK mags from them during their sale. 20 of those were crap and they refused to exchange. Fuck em.

There is no way I can ever trust them again. The price they show isn't a guarantee and the product they say is in stock is not guaranteed to be in stock. That is pure crappola. There are too many other places that don't do this garbage.

If a company allows you to backorder an item, they should honor the backorder price if it comes into stock.  By allowing backorders, a company is taking the risk that the price will increase from their suppliers.  The advantage to the company is that they get the order in on the front end.  The company knows what it is doing and they know that they are running a risk by doing this, so don't feel sorry for them.

If you don't follow that rule, a company shouldn't be taking backorders on items.

This is not a new issue for Sportsman's Guide, by the way.  This happened last year repeatedly with prices on 5.56 and 7.62 ammo.  It is a "bait and switch" scam that they are perpetrating.  They get you to backorder knowing full well that they are going to increase the price.  By the time they notify you, you are hooked and your card has likely been charged.  You have a choice to either cancel the order or pony up the difference.

Not only is this a bad business practice, but many States will prosecute vendors who do not honor "backorder" prices.

I got some '42 headstamp 303 from them several years ago that does that.  Not all of it, but enough to certainly be noticeable.

I swore off SG like so many others after being a member for several years.  Got some good deals, but then they went to shit when the company got bought by the French.

I don't know about the backorder price thing, but never give those idiots your e-mail address.  Despite asking dozens of times to be removed from their lists, they still send three copies of their spam several times a week.  The one today had the subject "After Thanksgiving Sale!... $5 Shipping Coupon from The Guide."  They're spamming through a connection with att.net.  If you're one of their many victims make sure you forward a copy of your complaint to [email protected].  If they get enough complaints AT&T will disconnect their Internet connection.  At this point that seems like the only solution that will put a stop to those idiots.z

Sounds like an easy dispute and win with the CC company.  When you order you have to agree to the little thing that says "I authorize a transaction in this amount..."
If they pulled that stunt I'd definitely file a dispute.

Never had a problem with them

I ordered 200 rounds of .50 BMG from them when they were the last "sanely priced" vender of .50 cal ammo.

They sent me an email telling me that they were out of stock and did not think they would be able to get anymore, but I could backorder it, so I did.

About 5 months later the UPS guy drops off a couple cans of ammo, I was going where did THAT come from.

They sent me some of the last .50 BMG ammo at the price I originaly ordered it for.

YMMV.

A couple of years ago around the time ammo first jumped up in price, I ordered a few cases of Yugo 8mm from them for $60 each. I received a notice they were back-ordered. The next day, the ammo went up to $100 a case. They honored the original price with me.

Sorry to hear that they've changed.

I've ordered ammo from them for years and on any backorder they never charged my card until the order shipped.  When backordered, they always honored the price I ordered at as long as I played the continue me on backorder game in which you have to contact them every month.  I had ammo on backorder for over a year and always got it at the price on my email order verification.

I LIVE near the Sportsmans Guide, and the Sportsmans Guide OUTLET STORE.

I used to go there, but realized that they mostly had crap.

The funny thing is, you can go to Minneapolis Craigslist Rant and rave, and EVERYDAY there is someone complaining about the "douchebags" and such at Sportsmans Guide.

The people that go there usually smelled of urine and acrid, poor-quality cigarettes.

I ordered ammo from SG last week.  There were some items on backorder, but they only charged my card for the in stock items.  My invoice has the price for the out of stock items clearly listed.  We'll just have to see what happens, but at this point everything's kosher.

I can tell you that in the past, they have either filled the out-of-stock order at the same price, except when I ordered some surplus ammo that went permanently out of stock.  They also email periodically to ask if you'd like to keep the items on back order or cancel.

Jeez, this AGAIN?

Remember a few years ago with the $99/$104 per thou Wolf???

They kept incresing the price and decreasing the quantity you ordered during the backorder, and kept making you "reconfirm" your order.

Then claimed I ordered from an old catalog (I ordered from their website!)

Also claimed large orders were for Resale and blocked them.
"Customer Servive" was, mostly, a bunch of a-holes.

I had printed out my email/rec't showing the lower price.
They shipped fewer cases than I ordered, then charged me $134/1,000.

I disputed it with CC company ,and refunded the difference!

Love to see $134/1,000 now.

Unless the terms were clearly stated send the post office investigators after them.

i don't buy ammo there, but i have had regular items BO in the past. NEVER charged until shipped and it was the same price as advertised. in fact last month i got in 40 "individual protection covers" that were BO since june.

best i can tell this only seems to apply to ammo. there ammo prices suck anyways, why bother.

The Way the Interweb Works 101 - the (probably) larger number of people who have good experiences with a product or company don't post it eleventy-bazillion times on every forum they can find, but when a (probably) smaller number of people have a less than good experience do, its posted all over the place -angrily.

The trick is to determine the actual depth and validity of the issue.  Is the poster telling the whole story?  Did they try to resolve the issue?  Did the company really act like assholes?  Excetera, excetera, excetera.

Sometimes its the product or company and sometimes its not.

I made a huge order with SG when my sons, a friend, and myself took a carbine course (7500 rds of .223, plus 2500 rds of pistol ammunition - 9mm and .40).  People have had their club memberships cancelled for orders that big.  I called and told them what it was for - no problem.

Just FYI, they don't like backorders because it raises their shipping costs.  They charge a pretty high level of shipping, but it tops out at $20.  Because of this when I do order ammo from SG it's usually a fairly HUGE amount.

HIGHER BACKORDER LEVELS CAN NEGATIVELY IMPACT OUR OPERATING RESULTS.

TSG's average customer order is approximately three items. Backorders
frequently result in our shipping the customer two packages, but we charge the
customer shipping only for the first package. Consequently, higher backorder
levels increase our shipping costs and negatively impact our operating results.
Effectively managing our level of backorders depends both on our ability to
accurately forecast customer demand and product availability from our vendors.

When I last looked SG was a public company, shareholder owned (US OTC).  French?  How much did they pay per share?  Is it private within a French holding company or public and listed on the French exchange?
