Worker dies at Long Island Wal-Mart after being trampled in Black Friday stampede
BY JOE GOULD DAILY NEWS WRITER Updated Friday, November 28th 2008, 10:19 AM A Wal-Mart store was the scene of chaos this morning. Anderson/News A worker died after being trampled and a woman miscarried when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island Wal-Mart Friday morning, witnesses said. The unidentified worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m. Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him. "He was bum-rushed by 200 people," said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too...I literally had to fight people off my back." Nassau County Police are still investigating and would not confirm the witness accounts. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. Police did say there were several injuries but weren't more specific. Jessica Keyes was among the shoppers. She told the Daily News she saw a woman knocked down just a few feet from the dying worker. "When the paramedics came, she said 'I'm pregnant,'" Keyes said. Paramedics treated the woman inside the store and then, according to Keys, told the woman: "There's nothing we can do. The baby is gone." Before police shut down the store, eager shoppers streamed past emergency crews as they worked furiously to save the store clerk's life. "They were working on him, but you could see he was dead, said Halcyon Alexander, 29. "People were still coming through." Only a few stopped. "They're savages," said shopper Kimberly Cribbs, 27. "It's sad. It's terrible." http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2008/11/28/2008-11-28_worker_dies_at_long_island_walmart_after.html |
| It would help if the biggest crazy-person attracting satanic corporations didn't jump the gun on Christmas to get a few extra bucks and advertise so many Black Friday deals for the first so-many people to get in the store. They did about the same thing when I worked at Sears, and while nobody was trampled it was still dumb as crap. |

BTW if Wallyworld had a policy of shoot on site for those that come rushing through the doors like a stampede of cattle this shit wouldn't happen. Should never happen anyways in a suppossed "civilized" society. |

AQ is taking notes Yep. A bomb in the right spot could cause more damage due to human panic than the bomb in the first place. I believe the single biggest incident of death in Iraq since the insurgency was the false rumor of a bomb were people rushed off of a bridge and over 700 were trampled to death. |

tongue in cheek
Yes we live in a civilized country. With how considerate people are to each other here in the U.S.A. why would anyone ever feel the need to have a firearm. After all, all of these civilized people would never step on someone else. end tongue in cheek This is just another incident proving that the U.S.A. is not "civilized". This is very sad. |

Sheesh. It is fucking Wal-Mart people! You'd think they could wait five seconds to get in to buy a bunch of cheap Chinese made crap. Nope... this is what happens when everyone is taught that they can't live without cheeeep chinese shit from a retailer that that could give a fuck less about this country's economy as long as they are making a buck. The ignorance and stupidity that shreiks from peoples mere existence these days just fucking baffles me to no end. What in the fuck is WRONG with these people.. my God.. I hate to even leave the house anymore due to these fucking dolts, makes me want to puke on them. |

I am so ashamed of what we are becoming. The scum are outbreeding us. Becoming? http://www.crowdsafe.com/cafe/who20.html The December 3, 1979 Who concert tragedy in Cincinnati, Ohio, ranks as the most horrific rock concert incident in the United States. Eleven rock fans were crushed to death and scores injured because of gross crowd management failings. In many ways, this disaster lives on like other terrible moments befalling a community. People recall the nightmare in disbelief; many have personal stories to tell. A landmark report on concert safety, Crowd Management: The Report of the Task Force on Crowd Control and Safety, was published in 1980 by a special Cincinnati citizen task force. The critically acclaimed report contained many recommendations designed to prevent a repeat of the disaster. Among the report's most important recommendations
As strong a supporter of personal rights and responsibilities as I am, I have to say the stores are liable. They create the hysteria to drum up business. Then fail to provide basic crowd control. |

Having experienced it, I tend to agree. Absolutely no crowd control whatsoever. And it happens every year somewhere so it is not like it comes as a surprise. |

We reap what we sow, the law of the jungle takes over when mob mentality is presented.
When Americans are told they deserve more than they have earned, have all the sex you want, eat McDonalds, smoke pot, and defy authority, what do we expect. Where do we normally see this type of behavior? Heres a hint: not in high end/income neighborhoods. Not where morals of the highest order are taught. But whatever, I'm just some right winger. |

I could just imagine, me in my blue smock, proudly displaying my "flair" pin proclaiming me cashier of the month on one side of my blue vest and a smiley face pin on the other side, calling frantically for backup as my cheap WalMart sneakers fastened with the two velcro strips for laces struggle to hold thir precious ground aginst a raging tide of land whales grunting and slithering thier masiive bulk against the doors trying to be the first in. Beads of sweat running off thier greasy hair falliing and intermingling with the other land whales creating wet spots on thier gravy stained sweatshirts and heavily printed flannel pajama pants. I can imaging loosing the struggle against the overwhelming massive tonnage with the bulging eyes in thier zombie-like state. The smell of fear, intermingled with Doritos, pork rinds and body odor would overwhelm and add yet an additional dimension to the sheer fright of it all. The raging, massive tsunami of rolling waves of flesh, clawing thier way in with sausage-like fingers until the doors finally break open to let loose the stampede from hell! I could imaging that being me, and not having one chance in hell of surviving. ![]() You should write stories my friend, I could picture the whole thing! |
