Our microwave is nine years old.  Recently it started arcing when it is in use.  Without knowing exactly what is wrong, can symptoms like this be fixed, or is it time to get a new one?  Thanks.

Not worth fixing.
Get a new one.

It'll be fine, just ground your food with a wire first.

It's fine. Start worrying when it arcs when it's NOT in use! Once they become self-aware, they're useless and dangerous.

Pretty much this.

Unless it needs cleaning.
Any smokers in the house? High voltage is a smog/dust magnet.

Clean the interior.
Especially where the GIZMOTRON rays shoot out.
Seriously, mine just needed a little cleaning on the inside, where your food goes.

This, fixed for the thingmajob that makes the waves that nuke your chow.

Seriously, clean the cavity. Is it arcing under the Shelf? (tray you put stuff on?) If so, cut the silicone, remove the shelf and clean below.

The "rays" are longer wavelength than light.  They are about the same as WiFi and cell phone "rays".
