This actually happened today in the town across the river from me! Man in wheelchair robs bank Police: Man in wheelchair robs bank on Merritt Island BY KAUSTUV BASU • FLORIDA TODAY • November 14, 2008 Police say a man in a motorized wheelchair robbed a Space Coast Credit Union on Merritt Island this afternoon and was arrested minutes later more than 500 feet from the bank. Advertisement The man allegedly involved in the bank robbery at the Space Coast Credit Union in the 400 block of Fortenberry Road on Merritt Island about 4:15 p.m. was arrested minutes later near the parking lot of a FLORIDA TODAY office on Plumosa Street, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said. The man entered the bank in a motorized wheelchair and demanded money, officials said. “He left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money and he was arrested soon after,” said Lt. Mike DeMorat of the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office has not released the name of the suspect. Charges are pending. |
