A friend had one. No better, no worse than a .223 AR. It was all Colt. He sold it to get an M4gery. He made some good money on it.

Are you talking about the Special Weapons AR-47?

If so, my experience with SW is limited to their SW5, but I wouldnt buy one (to clarify) made under the name of "Vulcan"

If you're talking about the Colt 7.62x39mm version of an AR - its fine, but mags other than USA Brand may be hard to come by.

Consider the MGI "Hydra" lower instead with adaptable mag wells, that also allow use of actual AK magazines.

I have one posted for sale:

The problem with a 7.62x39 AR-15 is there are just not a lot of really good options for 7.62x39 mags.  The old USA Franken mags work the best but they are very expensive.

The AR-47 on the other hand can use "most" 7.62x39 AK-47 mags (Rommy style drums being the exception) and the mags feed like they do for an AK plus the AK mags are much cheaper then the special AR-15 7.62x39 mags.

There were several version of the AR-47 and you want to avoid those made by Vulcan.  Very poor excuse for an AR-47 and I understand those were unlicensed copies so they were only available for a short while but they are out there.

Like any AR-15, the real work is done by the upper so buy a good upper in 7.62x39 and add it to an AR-47 lower and you are good to go.  In my case, I have both the AR-47 as well as a 7.62x39 AR-15 (with the franken mags) as well as a stack of AKs so I just don't use the AR-47.
