I got this quote from a friend of mine today, unfortunately without any citation as to where he got it. Can anyone confirm that he said this, or otherwise disprove it? It just sounds a little over the top, but maybe I'm just underestimating him.
"My first priority will be to reinstate the assault weapons ban as soon as I take office. Within 90 days, we will go back after kitchen table dealers, and work to end the gun show and internet sales loopholes. In the first year, I intend to work with Congress on a national no carry law, 1 gun a month purchase limits, and bans on all semi-automatic guns." ––Barack Obama, VPC Fund Raiser, 2007 |

I don't know about that, but I do know that he said this:
“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it, Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress’’ and Biden said: "I guarantee you Barack Obama ain’t taking my shotguns, so don’t buy that malarkey, if he tries to fool with my Beretta, he’s got a problem. I like that little over and under, you know? I’m not bad with it. So give me a break. Give me a break." |

Here it is, right on Obama's "president elect" website...
Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.

Quite a difference from that and I'll do it all in the first year. IMO, we won't see a serious attempt at a ban until 2011. |

Far cry from banning all semi autos and making it the first thing he does
I googled this a bit too and the only place you see it are on half assed blogs and message boards. Some people will believe anything that stirs up their paranoia (not referring to the OP, at least he's asking the questions instead of passing it on as fact like most of the idiots do). |
| Obama's big strength in this campaign was money, and the ability to get it. He addressed every special-interest group with the same line "The first thing I'm going to do as President is <insert special interest here>" He's made a lot of promises to a lot of people. |

Quoted: The NRA-ILA has a web page with an extensive collection of Obama's most damaging anti-gun quotes. Your "quote" isn't on it. Do you really think they would have ignored this quote if it was valid?I got this quote from a friend of mine today, unfortunately without any citation as to where he got it. You found an anti-Obama web site that merely repeated the OP's quote - with no mention of where or when it was said, and no mention of who reported it. That's hardly confirmation that Obama actually said it. |
