Some thoughts to ponder. A wise man once said that a democracy will continue to exist up until the time people discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidate who promises the most generous gifts from the treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy. This is almost always followed by some form of dictatorship.

The average age of the world's greatest republics and democracies from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years or so, those societies always progress through the following sequence:

1- From bondage to spiritual awakening.

2- From spiritual awakening to the courage to revolt.

3- From courage to freedom.

4- From freedom to abundance.

5- From abundance to complacency.

6- From complacency to apathy.

7- From apathy to dependency.

8- From dependency back into bondage.

So, America seems to be somewhere within the "complacency to apathy" stage, with some 40% or so of the nation's population having already reached the full "govermental dependency" phase. So many of us have forgotten that a government that is powerful enough to give you anything you want is also powerful enough to take away everything you have. Thomas Jefferson and many others would kick our asses for letting this happen.

Last night, when I went to bed, I had consumed a few beers in order to dull the inevitable pain.  When I opened my eyes this morning....this was the first thing I thought.

A lot of people are thinking some of us are being melodramatic....Lord, I hope that is the case.....but I don't think so.

From energy to national defense....from civil liberties to national integrity, the poulace of this country just elected a man who's interests lie counter to EVERYTHING this nation has stood for.

Two years left.  Obama is even more clueless on the economy than Bill Clinton.

Obama's election is the final part of the perfect storm.  Not since the 1930s have we been so set up to become a dictatorship.

None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free

The elites own so many minds they don't have to visibly enslave people.  That includes many of the members of this site that don't know reality when it stares them in the face.

FWIW, Lord Macaulay sometime in the mid 19th century.

Prior to him, Alexis de Tocqueville said.

"The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money."
 ––  Alexis de Tocqueville

This was written during Tocqueville's tour of the new country of America in the early 19th century shortly after its beginning.

No, I have no idea who Macaulay was. I found it doing a search. I always thought Tocqueville said it.

232 years to build our great country into what it is today. CHECK

Millions of lives lost protecting the freedom and rights of our citizens. CHECK

Willingly handing control of our country over to a dipshit that will destroy it 2 years- PRICELESS

This election just has me dumbfounded. I feel betrayed by my fellow Americans.

It's modern, but someone has tried to pass it off as having been written by a Scottish historian in the 1700s (I think) - but the historian it is attributed to has written no such thing.

Doesn't mean it's wrong - just means that the historical attribution that's been given to it to try to make it credible is bullshit.

Listen to Grover Norquist on Bill Bennet's show this morning.  He has a great comment on Obama just being there to sign the bills the Senate puts forth.

While were talking about how long America has left and quotes, can anyone debunk this one for me?

"Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as "internationalists" and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure - one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it."

Nobody can debunk the quote, because David did indeed PUBLISH this.

Turn off the TV, put down the Koolaid, and read some books people...
