What is the difference between FMJ and Ball ammo? I bought 500 M193 FMJ and 500 M855 Ball yesterday. What is the difference between the two?

I don’t really know what the difference between “FMJ” and “Ball” is. I think it’s essentially the same thing.

The difference between M193 and M855 is…

M193 - 55 grain bullet at 3,200fps (20” barrel)
M855 – 62 grain bullet at 3,000fps (20” barrel) the 62 grain bullet has a steel penatrator under the brass jacket and the tip is painted green.

M193 ammo stabilizes in a 1 in 12 twist barrel. It works just fine in 1 in 9 or 1 in 7 twist barrels too.

M855 needs about a 1 in 9 twist rate to stabilize properly. Newer military rifles (last 20+ years) have a 1 in 7 twist rate because the faster twist rate is needed to stabilize the tracer rounds.

Ball is an older term meaning not hollow point

ETA: I am no expert though

I've bought M855 Green tip penatrator from Palamino State Armory, but the M855 I bought yesterday does not have the grren tip, it is made by ADCOM.
