Anyone have any opinions on office chairs? I am looking for something ergonomic that I could sit in for hours. I tried out one today that was made by "Alvera" or something similar and retails for $800 or so. Cheapest I could find it on amazon was around 580. I am looking for something cheaper but is good to go, with a head rest. What is out there?

I'm in the biz. . . work for a Steelcase dealer. . . I sit in a "Think" chair of theirs. . very comfortable, mesh back and seat. . .they also make the "Leap" chair––-I have one at home. . . bit more technical chair. . for a good chair like this from the "Big 4" mfrs (Steelcase, Herman Miller, Haworth & Knoll), you will pay big bucks. . .  projects get better discounting because they buy dozens, if not hundreds at a time. . .

The "Think" I sit in has a detachable head rest, which is very nice. . . although I don't really use it much. .

Google around a bit to find dealers in your area. . .then you can make an appointment to go see and sit in one of their chairs. . . .although expensive, they are much better built than what you will get at Staples or Office Depot, and they have pretty good warranties as well. . .should easily last 15––20 years. . .

Thanks for the reply. I don't have the option of trying out any chairs(other than the ones I already did) because I live in a remote area of Alaska. The one I tried out was great, but I am sure my body isn't much different than everyone else's so if anyone has a chair they like, let me know.

ETA: I looked at the think and it looked nice. If I am going to buy one in that price range I will buy the one here that is slightly over $600. I am just wondering if there is anything considerably cheaper that offers the same comfort. Thanks for the replies.

I went through a real period of buying desk chairs a few years ago.  I think I went through about five of them in a short period before I was satisfied with two that I kept.

Office Max or Office Depot have a pretty good selection in decent price ranges.

Thanks for the response guys. That is right around the price of the other one I am looking at. I am sure it is well worth it. The only good chair I have been able to try out is the Alera EQ Series. Did any of you get to compare this one to any of the others?

Wow, other then being grotesque, when you "request" the price you have to send an email or call a studio somewhere.

Last year I set my mind to getting one, but I was determined to not pay the full price.  So I set an alert on Craigslist and, sure enough, within a couple of weeks somebody local sold his to me for $300.
