OK with this talk of the rioting that's sure to follow the election, I give you a hypothetical:
You live in an urban/semi-urban area, and Rioting has spilled over into your area, your on your roof, and you can see the rioters looting, and burning stores along the main road, you can't see inside at what's happening to the owners/staff of these stores, but your pretty sure given the fact that the rioters are looting them, smashing everything they can, and they just threw a Molotov cocktail through the window of the nearest one it's probably nothing good..... So far they seem to be focusing on the stores/restaurants along the main road, but you live just off the main road, and you can already see some of the o-bots entering the neighborhood along the side of the road, and attacking there, not allot, but some. The obamunists are about 200 Yards away, and closing along the main road, and several small groups of outriders are sweeping along side through the Neighborhoods, neither group is a direct threat yet, but you strongly think that will change as soon as they get into Molotov range, and there closing fast, you have a high power rifle, and a clear shot, what do you do? |

If they get within attacking range and you feel threatened, then lite em up.
I would think firing warning shots would be an excuse to escelate the situation, dispite the fact that they already are rioting, I would want to wait untill they are directly threatening me. By threatening, i mean if they get inside of 50 yards with a molotov, and are heading strait towards me, I would yell "GET OFF MY DAMN LAWN!!!!" then i would fire.

If it is apparent that law enforcement is unable to control the situation hopefully I will have had time to make a quick run to the station and gather a M16/MP5 or three along with the required ammo. I do have the keys to the ammo room.
I would have to engage once they got to the 100yd markers. The small crabapple tree to the west and the tan mailbox to the east are both at 100 yds (give or take a coule of feet). ETA: I also would be able to grab a .50 if one of our snipers already didn't take it. Then there are the M14's in the way back of the closet.

Riot with injury and property loss is a felony. Arson is a felony. Use of deadly force to protect dwelling or building in your posession from arson is allowed. Use of deadly force to protect another is justified if the protected person would be justified in using deadly force. If I know the building is occupied, the molotov thrower gets dropped, hopefully before he/she can toss. If attention turns to me and mine, it's weapons free. Start with obvious organizers/leaders and those with obvious weapons. Followers of opportunity will lose heart and retreat thus thinning the herd and causing confusion in their ranks. Then I switch over to my Tesla Gun... |

You've seen them light and toss molotovs. You can articulate that the target was a threat as soon as he tried to spark the lighter. Somebody else starts trying to light it despite the first T being dropped, they get dropped, too. |

As others have said, in most states it is permissable to use deadly force to prevent imminent commission of arson. It is not necessary to actually let them throw the incendiary destructive device if you (and the jury) are convinced they were about to employ it to commit arson.
If even a single one of them has an lit molotov in hand, fire at will. |
