If NAFTA did anything it was move production jobs South of the border where labor was cheap and Union free. My dad's job went to Ecuador long ago (Carter's Clothing, textiles industry). Cheaper to make onesies down south I guess. BUT, don't forget, its Bush's Fault™ and Fuck Obama. |

I do believe NAFTA reared its ugly head under Bush I, but it was Billary that signed it (1993).
ETA: Grabbed this from Wiki: The North American Free Trade Agreement (Spanish: Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte [TLCAN], French: Accord de libre-échange nord-américain [ALENA]) is a trilateral trade bloc in North America created by the governments of the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The agreements were signed in December 1993 by the leaders of the three countries — Brian Mulroney of Canada, Carlos Salinas de Gortari of Mexico, and Bill Clinton of the United States but did not come into effect until January 1, 1994[1] |

Regardless of who signed it, many believe free trade is the way things are going (global economy IS real). If that is the case (as whomever supported this believes), then we better get onboard before we get left behind...I can't say that it was "way out there" and a total piece of crap agreement in that context, although other, intelligent people may wish to disagree.
Do you believe in tariffs on imported goods as a general rule? Cases to be made on both sides. Besides, you can't use it against BHO much, but you CAN use it against McCain, he is a BIG free-trader, from what I have heard him say. BHO seems much more protectionist, and of course, is a big supporter of unions. |

There's a nice video out there of Al Gore debating NAFTA with Perot... Gore talks about how NAFTA will increase our exports to Mexico and if the trade balance shifts to where the US is importing more from Mexico than we export to Mexico... then Clinton/Gore will end the agreement immediately.
F.U. Al Gore! |
