Both of my grandpas are deceased, and I got to thinking about them recently.
I'm on a mission to dig up some photos of them. While I'm digging, go ahead and post some photos of your grandpas (grandma's too). Share a story if you'd like. |

http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/265084/original/tenntess-1-copy.jpg About '44; 8th Air Force First Strategic Air Depot. Honington, England I LOVE nose art. They liked 'em pointy in those days didn't they? And I really like the one of the B-29 pilot using the propeller as a Lazyboy. Just look at that grin! I think he kinda hot. I have a picture of my Grandfather in his Coast Guard uniform; he spent the war annoying German submarines off the coast of North Carolina. If I can get by the bank and get it out of the safety deposit box in time, I'll post it. GREAT THREAD! Jane |

General John D. Lavelle And DO NOT believe all that left wing bullshit they said about him. He did what he was told, and what was right. He was a great man, and I miss him. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q200/jar15enloe/lavelle_jd.jpg General John D. Lavelle, USAF, took command of the 7th Air Force in Saigon on July 29, 1971. General John Ryan, the Chief of Staff, Air Force, fired him on March 26, 1972. Lavelle agreed to retire. Ryan and the Congress reduced his retirement rank two grades, to two-star major general, unprecedented in our history. The "charge" was that he had ordered unauthorized bombing attacks of North Vietnam. There was no legal proceeding. He was tried in the court of public opinion and accused of having disregarded civilian control of the military. General Lavelle died on a golf course seven years later. White House tapes recently have been released that irrefutably show the attacks he ordered were authorized, by President Nixon.

![]() Thank you. He is the only 4 star General without his picture hanging in the Pentagon, but since the release of the tapes we have been working hard to change that. |

My grandfather in the early '50s. Sub skipper during WW2, won the Navy Cross. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f178/chrishartman/ishartman.jpg What was his name? I read LOTS of WWII sub history. My grandfather in front of his plane in Korea, waiting for Singman Rhee.
I need to scan the picture of he and the rest of the crew in front of their B-29 in 1945 on Guam. |

One of my families favorites right here. http://www.qsl.net/kf6myv/ar15/gen/Nov23%20011b.JPG These are my 'Jones' Grandfathers. Four generations worth. L to R Alexander Mitchell, Wyatt Thomas, Wyatt Jasper Sr, and Wyatt Jasper Jr. (my Grandfather) How can you not love that lineup? Here is my Grandfather later in life http://www.qsl.net/kf6myv/ar15/gen/Wyatt_Uniformb.JPG Hmmm I just looked up Alexander and I see - The name Jones, Alexander Mitchell appears on a Tennesse Confederate Application for the 9th Battalion, Calvary. Interesting! |
