So with all the unemployement an job cuts right now some of you may have run into this already. Lets say your good friends start loosing their jobs and you are in the position to hire them. Would you do it knowing their traits(some of them unfavorable?)

yup

Nope. I learned a long time ago that friends will let you down in the workplace.

No, I learned that out the hard way.  I hired a few friends.  I had to train them and they turned out to be shitty employees.  Plus they didn't like being told what to do.

Only if I had a legit reason, he was qualified and he knew that he wouldn't recieve preferential treatment.

No handouts here.

Maybe. Depends on the the particulars of that friend and what job I could give them. I'd try to find some way to help him, regardless.

^This^  I will help them find a job, just not w/ the company I work for.

If they have appropriate skills to help the business, then yes, BUT only if they will help the business.

Always take the actions you believe/understand to be in the best interests of the business even if your personal preferences pull you in a different direction.

Do not hire someone because they're your friend.  Hire them if and only if they will help the business you work for succeed.

I'll help a buddy out, but not if they had to become my subordinate.  It would muddy the whole situation and not end well for both of us.

I have a pal that got two DUIs and I have to drive him everywhere... mainly to the bar.  Hire him?  Heh... don't think so.

I was just curious. I was talking to a buddy the other night and he said him and another buddy might get laid off. Ive had people in the past ask about it too and I just dont think i could ever work with any of them. They are great to be friends with and see on occasion but I couldnt deal with them in a work situation.

I say yes, but if they screw you over, they get fired like anyone else.

I wouldn't.  I never liked doing business with friends nor family.

This, He still works here but is the biggest fucking moron and lied on his resume.
Because of this I no longer refer anyone for anything

I would -- and have -- hired friends, but only when they're qualified.

Undesirable traits?  Depends on what they are.  It's MY ass in a sling if the person doesn't work out.

If I was in that situation I would be very appreciative and work like hell to not only keep it from being a bad decision but a great one.  However I take the employer/employee relationship seriously and it would probably change the nature of our friendship.
