If the polls said McCain was leading everyone would wholeheartedly embrace them. Because they say otherwise, people will grasp at straws to discredit them.

Go there and look at Oct 22 poll results.

Bush 50%

Gore 41%

Edit:  In fact, almost the entire month of Oct. and the first week of Nov. Bush leads in the daily tracking poll by a good margin.

That was Oct 2nd of 2000.  On Oct 21st, 2000, they have Bush 51 and Gore 40

Which means that next week, McCain could jump 8 or more points and be ahead of Obama.

Past performance does not guarantee future results.

Of course it doesn't.

My point is that polls really don't mean much and they're not worth getting discouraged over.

Exactly. I dont read into polls... they can be manipulated very easy. You want me to give you a Pro Obama poll, I can get you those numbers.... want me to skew it towards McCain, I can do that too.

However, it baffles me that in time of war, bad economy, Bush's low approval rating, and the Dems out-donating the Repubs, why are the numbers so close? Dems should be WAY ahead.

uh, Gore was +1.5-2% in 2000 popular vote but lost in the electoral college.
