| So I was out with the wife for some Doctor appointments today. As we were driving down the street I looked over and saw a NEW GUN SHOP! How did this happen, where did it come from so on and etc? So we pulled in, small shop decent selection of black Rifles for size, a couple bolt guns, Glocks, Kimbers and I think Paras. A few Taurus revolvers and alot of 511 clothing. Everything was marked up at least 100 bucks over cost. Run of the Mil M4 1350 dollars? HK USP compact 880? Glock 17 660? Why do they do this? Anyway I walked out and cant imagine going back in. Most of the gun shops on South West Florida are this way. |
| i'm glad we got a ol timer at the range who sells firearms for cost + shipping he doesnt want to make a dime on a sale he just likes selling firearms for a hobby and if you tip him he will donate the tip to the NRA. i havent set foot in a gun shop for a loooong time. |
some people just dont know how to run a business. alienating customers by nickel and dimeing them is a good way to go out of business. my personal favorite is the shops that get all but hurt when i ask them for their best price, they come back with a few bucks off their retail price(insanely high, think 900$ for a sig 220 4 years ago, when i got online quotes for $599) i tell them i can get it for 650 with all said and done, they say ok fine go buy it from them. i do and had it transfered through the local FFL(figured i would give him some easy business, hell they need the FFL to be in business so that annual fee is a sunk cost) and the guy gets all mad i bought elsewhere and didnt come to him first and deal with him. he could have "beat the price" guy didnt believe what i paid for it until i showed him the invoice. |
If it more than $20, I go elsewhere. A guy around here does them for $15. I would go through him all the time, but he is gone sometimes for a few months at a time due to being a C-130 Navigator. |

We have a Range here in Crestview (Shoal river Range)that only charges $25 for a transfer Everywhere else is $40-50 ![]() You can stop in, pick up your new gun and test fire it same day FREE

Amen! I've never paid more than $20. I've had people ASK me to pay more than $20, but that's it. Pawn shops usually are less expensive for FFL transfers than gun stores, IME. |

there is a gun store about a half mile down the road from me... i walked in for the first time last weekend... non-windowed PMAGs selling for $25 each loose in a box... USED USGI mags loose in a box $22 each... i looked at my friend and he asked if there was a ban we didn't know about... i won't be back |

We have a tacticool shop here that opened up about 6 months ago,They are a little high, but unless they are way over priced i try to support them, Being able to handle the mechandise is deffintley worth 10-15% more than the internet shops charge. Plus the owner is a good source of info. |
Funny you should say that. Patriot Arms off of Eglin Parkway is $30 or $15 with a military discount. The only down side to them is they are a real gunstore and want you to buy from them if they have the item in stock. Azusa Pawn Shop is right down the street on Eglin Parkway and they charge a flate rate of $30. The great thing about Azusa is they are only a pawnshop. It is a little rough looking storefront. They keep a few overpriced Taurus handguns in a case to keep their FFL dealer status but they will transfer anything with no questions asked. I even asked the guy once if he would rather I buy from him and he said no. He said it was easier to take my $30 and let me do all the work than him to do it for me. I have probably transfered 25 guns through them in the past 2 years and he knows my voice when I call. Sometimes he lets me pay only $20. He probably couldn't answer a gun question if I asked him a specific question about a certain model, but he sure knows his place in the firearms foodchain. It is the only "gunstore" I feel completely comfortable going into because the guy only wants to make money, not sell overpriced guns. He understands a transfer is almost free money for him with no overhead. |
I did not say I paid that for a transfer. Last transfer I did I paid 20 bucks. |
I walked into a gun shop in Southern California one time and they had the same prices that you're talking about. Glocks for 650. Berettas about 600. Glocks in SW AZ are about 499 new. California guys, what's the average price of a Glock in your neck of the woods? |
525-575 |

I was in the market last year for a Glock 27 standard. I had a merchandise credit of around 400 bucks from Cabelas, so I thought I would buy one there. I went to the Cabelas in Rogers, MN and they had a brand spanking new one for 519.00 and a "used one" for 539.99. The used one looked pretty new, so I asked the salesman if there was nightsights, or a bunch of extras that went with it (holster etc). Nothing extra-just basic model. I then pointed out the new price, and the used price which was higher. I inspected the used one and there was some wear marks on the feeding ramp, so it had been used for sure. Needness to say, the manager was called and he looked at them both cluelessly...and finally offered to sell the used one for 519.99 as his best price. I went elsewhere. No more business for me at Cabelas! |
Damn them for wanting to pay their lease, electric bill, salaries, insurance, etc. and still turn a profit! Don't worry, Obama will put paid to those damn greedy capitalists! |
And when this old timer passes away, and nobody else can get a "kitchen table FFL", and all of the gun stores are gone? ![]() Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. |
Transfers here range from 20-30, and I've heard of a 10 or 15 at a range. (I'll check next week). I had to find another ffl to transfer a pistol through as my regular shop was over 100 higher and couldn't budge. He even told me to buy elsewhere but he wouldn't do the transfer since he could sell it in theory. I kinda figured the $25 he made for a 2 minute phone call would be something, I guess not.Its even harder to haggle (sometimes) if you are young or look younger than you are. Too many old timers think you're full of shit, have no money, etc. |
![]() why didn't you just buy the new one for $519? that's a decent price, especially if you had a $400 credit to get rid of... |
Even in NoVA, more than $25-30 is unreasonable.. |
The new one was miss-marked and definitely a good price...I would have grabbed that up in a minute...I bet it is now marked $619.00 |
