Va. Sen. Jim Webb Says Virginians "Can Trust" Obama
Posted by Maria Gavrilovic

(ROANOKE, VA.) - Race still appears to be an issue in the presidential race in certain areas of the state, according to Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va. At a Barack Obama rally here today, Webb told the crowd of over 8,000 that he wants to address comments that have been made about “certain ethnic issues.” He went on to explain Obama’s ancestry, claiming that he has Appalachian roots.

“I would like to say, we know Barack Obama’s father was born in Kenya. Barack Obama’s mother was born in Kansas by way of Kentucky,” Webb said.

“We are going to see on Election Day the 14th president of the United States whose ancestry and whose family line goes back to mountains of this area.”

He added, “You can trust him – I trust him.”

Webb also called into question John McCain’s judgment for choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate. Although he noted that he’s had a 30-year relationship with McCain, Webb said he doesn’t understand why he would choose Palin.

“Do you really think that Sarah Palin was the most qualified person in the Republican Party?”
Webb asked. “I don’t know how many people here like country music, I like country music. There was a song about two years ago, "I know what I was doing but what was I thinking?" I think John McCain is probably singing that sing right now.”

On the day of his 7th trip to Virginia, Barack Obama leads in most state polls. However, he warned the crowd today not to get overconfident by lead and called on them to keep working.

“We were up in Texas and Ohio in the primary. We ended up losing. You can’t pay attention to the polls. We’ve got to keep making our case for change,” Obama said.

Ah. 10-4.

As to the story, Webb's just being a partisan politician.

...just as he will be when the dear leader proposes gun control.

There's no such thing as a good Democrat anymore.  Maybe some retired ones, like Zell.

I was raised to be one, but the first year of Clinton's first term fixed that.

It wasn't the basis of the book, but some of the passages contain what a normal person would consider incest and pedophilia.  Don't want to post them here.

Power often corrupts. Webb basically put himself up for sale a while back. To see him toeing the party line (no matter how shameless that line is) shouldn't shock anyone.

I always wondered why Oliver North has f'ing hated Jim Webb since their days at the Naval Academy.  Maybe Webb's just always been a douchebag?

Hey, Jim "guns are ok for me, but not the unwashed massed" Webb, maybe McCain chose someone who who is not an elitist?  you think that might have had anything to do with it?

Well JDC, you have finally woken up. I had no respect for the POS since before he was elected (I didn't vote for him), and whe nhe kept using the ad extolling what Regan said (in light of what Webb did a short time later) against the wishes of Nancy, he just went deeper in the hole. Then his whole book thing (closet fag), and the fact that he let his aide take the fall over the gun, adds up to a littel worm who is a disgrace to the Marine Corps, and to Virginia.

And now this? I am not one bit surprised.

Webb would sell his mother to get into office.

It does not appear he learned a damn thing in his education provided at OUR EXPENSE.

His only skill appears to be changing his spots when it suits his needs.

I'll bet he doesn't spend much time looking in the mirror these days, afraid that he'd be ashamed of what he sees.

Sounds like he had a good measure of the man right off the bat (good) and the self control not to do it (even better).  Judgement and self control -- that puts him two up on POTUS already.

ETA:

I think that a lot of folks could do with a closer examination of his record during the Reagan Administration.  Webb hasn't changed at all, for better or for worse.  He still strikes me as far more conservative than Bush.  He is still more liberal than I like, but far more conservative than Bush.

According to one of his books, before his USMC career ending wound, he firmly believed he would one day be Commandant-maybe he didn't have the good sense to keep this to himself.

Yeah, not only did I vote for him, but I represented his position on the Iraq War in a college debate for the college-democrats, despite the fact I was a college-republican at the time. In fact, I was even stuck in traffic with him for a few hours north of Richmond.

I highly regret my support for him.

Well, he has lost any chance of a vote from me.  He'll probably get back in because of all of the northern transplants in NoVa though.  Here is an excerpt from his reply to my e-mail contact from the bailout bill -

...
For many years, I have said that the current Administration has failed to exercise appropriate oversight of the nation's banking and corporate sectors, and has promoted policies that reward Wall Street at the expense of Main Street.  The Administration's actions are largely responsible for our current economic crisis, which resulted in President Bush's September 2008 proposal to help restore soundness to U.S. credit markets."

...

First of all, he hasn't been on the hill for that many years.  Clearly he is towing the party line and covering for Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and the others that blocked requests for reform in return for cold, hard cash.

He also threw his staffer under the bus when he carried Webb's bag into the Capitol Bldg with a loaded firearm in it.  The staffer was arrested and for days Webb's response was 'what gun?  any gun in that bag wasn't mine.'  He may be a gun enthusiast, but it seems his rights are more equal than the rights of the commoners.

I read his books when I was a kid. I was a fan. He was a good writer.

I thought it was cool when he became Ronald Reagan's Secretary of the Navy. But when he quit like lil' bitch a couple of months later.

I began to see a pattern of disturbing behavior. I won't even get into his love of the confederacy.

Fuck him and fuck his buddy Obama.

Jeez louise..........The radio stations have been running that POS commercial around here for a week now. Even heard a couple of people talking about it at the gunshow today. Most seem to think the "Messiah" put this out at the last minute to try and pickup some of the "Fudds" who are on the fence around here.

IMHO he can take his "Sportsman For Osama" BS and play it somewhere else.......
