I know this should be in the DPMS section, but hopefully I will get a quicker response here before I commit to the dealer on this rifle.

I'm Going to buy a LRT-SASS today; I'm curious if I can swap out the full-length free float tube for a carbine length?

You can, but you'll have a gas block/front sight and about 4 inches of exposed gas tube hanging out there...

Found this picture.  
It appears that the gas block is about 4" back from the front of the rail???
