saw a special on the Rangers on military channel...used in 'nam and iraq...here is the vidmilitary.discovery.com/videos/weaponology-season-2-shorts-army-rangers-intro.html tomahawk stuff starts about 4:15, whole video is good though so should i get a tomahawk???
|
Then try it doing backflips...you know like the spetznas do it Hatchet attacks |

When my brother deployed, he was able to take a tomahawk. The Afghani civilians feared him a great deal because they thought he was the executioner. Probably a regional thing, but it worked for him and they steered clear. The Afghani militia that was with his unit also treated him with a bit more respect and...distance than the other guys and my bro is a pretty outgoing and friendly guy. So a Tom is a pretty good psychological deterent at the very least. Now which one should I get him for his Pakistan deployment? |
| Tomahawks are very nasty and effective as close in weapons. They can do a lot of damage real fast without making a racket. You can cave in a skull or sever a trachea and carotids in one swipe. Even after the availability of firearms the Indians continued to carry them.....for good reason. |
This may help you They have a good line of tomahawks. I can stick one 9 times out of ten IF I am exactly seven paces from the target. Sort of restricts my lethality. ![]() |
This site will likely have the info you seek as well However shopping there may land you on some government watch list. |

How about the GG&G Battle Hawk: www.gggaz.com/index.php?id=141&parents=113 |

Goodies I used to have the H&B Shawnee. Nice thrower...1.5/2.5 "distances" are dealt with by holding the tomahawk with the blade to the rear...it will stick with the handle up. A distance is the length required for the tomahawk to completely revolve in the air one time. Closer than one "distance" and you would be chopping. Some advise that throwing is a last resort since you will be tossing away your weapon even if you strike an adversary. |

i own this one don't really know how practical it is but it is cool ass shit. |
|
I've always wanted to pick up one of those Cold Steel Rifleman's 'hawks. I'd probably be better with my machete, though. I've had some good practice clearing brush with the machete, I'm not sure the 'hawk would be as practical doing that. I have no idea about how "tactical" either would be. |
Want one. |
Nice I like that one!!! Is it well made? |
Personally I would rather have a couple of extra loaded mags. However from what I understand in that culture there is a certain respect for blade weapons that predates firearms. Perhaps it is ingrained as a sign of a warrior to avoid crossing. ![]() Edited to add text that didn't show on message. |
| Tomahawks are a real good weapon and generally useful in the back country. Check these out LINK . They are a lot cheaper and work just as well then the fancy ones |
I have one of the SOG Fusions too. It lives between the passenger seat and console in my truck. God help the poor schmuck with a tire iron. |
I've come close to buying one of those to put in a very similar place in my truck. I like the thin profile of that hawk. |
|
OK, so now I must have a tomahawk. What is a good one? www.lapolicegear.com/sogtatohahan.html How's this? |
|
RMJ Tactical that said, I'm buying one of these in the near future. |
+1.. Roofer's hatchet is a useful tool and weapon. The rifleman's hawk is very similar to it. |
+1 Best one for price and quality. Lagana ftw. |
|
A small axe, hatchet, or 'hawk is about the most kickass thing a man can carry into the woods besides a good knife. With good steel, you can put a fine enough edge on it to almost but not quite replace the knife too Their usefulness as a woodsman's tool far outweighs their usefulness defensively, though a firm blow with one could definitely part a guy's hair. I've never really considered throwing them practical enough to learn though. YMMV! |
Yup. Mine is a Craftsman that has done very well at camp, on the side of the road, and even around the fireplace and smoker. The hammer poll has been used quite a bit as well. It is a little on the heavy side for a hawk, and it needs a slightly longer handle than the one that came with it. Overall it is a great tool and could be a very good weapon if needed. |

Well, there's always this. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD0DV2vPNEQ |
