No internet connection, the cable company says the modem is fine, but does not show a computer or IP address on my end. I swapped modems, same story. There are no printers shown in the control panel, and the install a printer function does not work. The device manager folder is empty. The restore function does not work, there are no days highlighted to chose from. Some programs no longer work, for example I get this message when I try to open Microsoft Street’s and Trip’s:
Windows Media Player works, but no sound. This is my favorite part, when I click on help and support this pops up:

Am surprised it is having trouble, have ran this Windows program for about three years now with ZERO issues till now. Well, I did have some trouble with my ZONE LABS firewall program a few years back, had to remove that program. It shuts down and starts up fine. Have never started this particular computer in SAFE MODE. |

First thing I did was disconnect my slave drive, that is where I keep all my stuff. There sure were a lot of dust bunnies in there. Tried fixing it with the XP CD and running SFC /scannow. It ran for a good half hour to no effect. Also tried a clean install of XP but could not get it to boot from the CD, but I was not going to mess with the BIOS. Noticed that there was a recovery function when it boots, something Compaq added, F10. Ran for a good hour, and did the trick. Now just need to re-install my software, and customize the settings. |
