Don't see why they would. Actually I don't think they could keep a record of that kind of stuff.

The military requires you to put notches on the stock of your Blackhawk.

When I was an Air Force SEAL I had 347 confirmed kills with my M16, but they were midgets, so it only counted 173.5. It was hard getting credit for the kills though, because my M16 was chambered in .50 BMG, so they would explode if the bullet flew close to them, it didn't even have to hit them becuase the .50 is so powerful. We would have to pick up the goo and weigh it. One average midget weight was considered a kill.

No.

Now you may be able to read some commendations that will detail actions during battle. Pilots earned the moniker 'Ace' after 5 enemy shot down etc.

[#11]
Wouldn't snipers be the main ones to track the # of kills?
10/6/2008 5:12:24 PM EDT
[#12]
You have to turn in your enemies' left ears when you return your weapon to the armory after a mission.
The Armorer will then engrave a symbol on the stock of your XD sniper pistol.
On the fifth kill you get to keep your XD sniper pistol, which holds great value.
Typically you can find these rare specimens where Beanie Babies, Jerky and Collectible Plates are sold.

That "one shot one kill" expression doesn't happen often. To answer the question, the only time I have seen an official record of kills is in awards for heroism, usually a Silver Star or higher.
10/6/2008 6:32:05 PM EDT
[#23]
Yes. But they are kept on your dd-241 which is a secret file kept at the Pentagon. You have to be a 0-11 or higher to get access to it.

Not sure if it goes on any record, but snipers keep track of targets they have shot as being "confirmed" or "probable"

This type of question raises eyebrows though. Fighting for your country is a noble thing, but it is another thing to want to kill people because you think it would be cool. Those types of people should NOT be in the military and probably should be locked up.

why does it matter if they want to keep track. If thats there way of keeping themselves from suffering ptsd. All the more power to them, as long as they shoot legal targets does it matter why they did Not currently in the military.

I have never read a post more full of shit in my life. USAF seals had Ruger Mini 14s in stainless for their anti rust properties and for their ability to glare signal air support from the water and other vantage point. I'll have you know I met the Lieutenant Major who put the first team together himself at the last gunshow I was at.

Anybody who says they have "Confirmed kills" most likely does not. For most profesional soldiers, thats not something they just up and say.
And so far as I know, at least in my unit, they didn't really keep track officially.

WTF!? It shows every kill at the bottom of your HUD.  It even tells you if you get a headshot and how much health you have so you know if you can get hit anymore.  You've obviously never been in military.

no joke, i met a guy i knew in high school the other day at a bar, he is a marine and he was telling me that he tested into special forces and does black ops, but the funniest thing about it was he told me that he had over 67 "confirmed kills" in Iraq, now i know the guy is a marine and all but this just reaked of BS

better yet one of my other marine friends later told me that there were no such thing as confirmed kills except for snipers.

[#44]

Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Norman Hathcock II (May 20, 1942 – February 23, 1999) was a United States Marine Corps sniper with a service record of 93 confirmed kills and more than 300 probable kills during the Vietnam War.

Yeah, this Hathcock guy just made this shit up.

Maybe by reading every AAR and adding the numbers up...maybe. Who cares. The point is to complete the objective, not kill people, unless the people are the objective

Every once in a while someone would bring up old scuttle butt that once upon a time 8541s had their number of confirmed kills recorded on their Page 11 or something like that, but that the practice was discontinued because of an adverse effect on the Marine's carrer.  I never saw saw any proof this ever actually occured though.

Corpsman, you did what you could...

Triage can be a bitch too. Having to decide who to help and who to let go can can haunt you. Especially when you you have to let children go...

This was one of the worst days of my life. IED got a bunch of kids.

Those guys who go around bragging about taking lives need to have their heads examined. I know a few good V.A. shrinks if they need a referral.

How could they ever know? Gee, what a question.

I read and watched "Band of Brothers." You would have thought that Webster, being in on D-day and Holland, would have gotten several kills. I recall he wrote he could only think of ONE kill for sure.

WHY would any paperwork reflect "kills?"

What would they put on the paperwork for a B-52 pilot from Vietnam? Or an A-10 pilot from the gulf war v1.0?

Or the commander of a battleship during WWII? Or an aircraft carrier?

Think a question through before you ask.

Would this kill count only count for eyes on with a rifle?

I tell you what man that would be a very difficult thing to track with no real motivation to do so.  Think vietnam era blood trails type stuff.  If you have ever been in a fire fight then you will know that confusion is at its very worse.  You aren't the only one shooting.  I take pride in knowing I am doing my part and know that I have seen some crazy stuff but its also good to know that my buddies shared the experience.  I don't know who killed what in 99% of the cases.

I was with a scout platoon my first 7 months in country and do know the feeling of the 1 shot kill or the 1 shot...god dammit 2 shot kill.  Its not all high fives and back to the fob for near beer.  My scout platoon was torn apart after a murder trial that had one friend in jail for the remainder of the deployment.  Another in trial up until just recently and one in jail for up to 10 years.

When the platoon got ripped apart I went to the mortars where I originally came from.  In our AO we fired 3500 120mm mortar rounds.  So as a squad leader I told the gunner to fire.  But my fdc office told me to fire and the forward observers told them to.  Who gets the damn kills?

As a 60mm gunner though.  I would see my target plop a round on him and that was that....those are my kills no one else holds those.

Always remember that a blown up haji looks a hell of a lot like a blown up american.  Most people who glorify death have never really been exposed to it.
