Why do gun shows (southern classic gun and knife) not allow CWP holders to carry in the show? I used to think they worked like gun stores. They don't want you trying to sell loaded guns. So they check them at the door, but your carry weapon is none of there business.

Well at the show yesterday there was a new sign were you pay to get your ticket,(so everyone could see) saying that everyone with or without a concealed weapons permit is not allowed to carry a loaded gun in the show.

I also just read that you can't bring any guns to the shot show unless you are a vendor. Will they be disarming people at the door? Not that I can get in, but I'm sure those that are going/ have been know the answer.

This makes no sense to me. Someone please explain.

I think the reasoning is safety. A lot of guns changing hands. A lot of guns being fingered. ADs/NDs are a bitch in a crowd. A loaded, out in the open gun is viewed as a potential accident waiting to happen.

That being said, not allowing CCW is stupid because you are not going to touch that during the show.  I agree you are not likely to touch your open carry holstered pistol either...but I believe what I wrote to be the "reasoning" behind not allowing loading guns at a show.

Stupid people like to pull them out and show them off/try accessories on them/fit to holsters/etc... Now you got someone playing around with a loaded gun in a very populated and compact area and not caring about who they sweep with it while finger fucking the trigger.

That being said, you're in Florida. Ignore the sign and keep it concealed.

I asked that one time at a funshow.  Their response, insurance company requires it.  No surprise there.

I agree with the above posters.  There are lots of guns trading hands, being fingered, shown off and dry-fired including, potentially, CCWs.

ETA:  After seeing dozens of people using my head as an aiming point while dry-firing, I don't really have a problem with the rule.

They have the sign at the gun shows here too.  My take:  Concealed is concealed.

+1 I am on friendly terms with a local promoter and he told me the ONLY way he could get an underwriter to sign off on the policy was to require NO LOADED GUNS PERIOD policy, except LEOs and only if they were required to carry by regulation.

Personally, I do not mind this prohibition. I don't know what it is about gunshows (the crowds, the # of guns, the dealers elbow to elbow with each other, the "kid in a candy store" effect  ???) but somehow the four commandments of firearm safety are usually left in the parking lot. I always see fingers on triggers, poor muzzle awareness, ammo and guns being handled without thought and effectively no "safe" direction to begin with. The shows are a private business venture and this is their business policy. Personally, I kinda like it. However, one thing I would like to see is a clearing barrel or designated area with a safest direction indicator to properly clear your CC piece before you enter and to reload when you exit the show.

Becasue too many dumbasses have shot someone else at a gunshow with their CCW pistol.

I understand the insurance company thing. I think it is stupid, but I understand.

The guns pointed at people thing on the other hand I don't get. I don't think the people that I see with fingers all over the trigger actually carry a gun every day. I know I could be very wrong.

It just seems wrong to tell people that are legally carrying, that they can't carry at a gun show of all places.

It feels a little too much like the no gun signs that some stores put up.

Example? Do you have any?

If you said: Because too many dumb asses have shot someone else at a gun show with a supposedly unloaded pistol that they were trying to sell I would believe you.(Maybe)

I've been at two (2) shows in Houston where a CCW was discharged.  These were at posted shows BTW.

I'm ok with it. I have been to a gunshow where (before I got there that day) someone set off their .45. That's not cool! Especially if I have my girls there.

I have been at three gun shows when ND's happened.  All three shows did not allow concealed carry or any loaded guns in the room.  I have had more guns pointed at me then i care to even think about from being at shows.
Work a show for a week or two and you will never again underestimate the stupidity of many of the attendees.
Case in point.  Older gentleman walks up to the table picks up a sure-fire 6z and then grabs his loaded glock 22 from his inside the waistband holster and starts pointing it around the room to test the lite!!!!!!!!  This was in a room with more then 2000 people walking around.  After that i would have loved to have everyone strip searched at the door.

I have my gun on me or within arms reach 24/7/365, so I do have a problem with it. Especially in a pro 2nd amendment atmosphere.

I think the jackass that had the ND with his .45 should be banned from the shows, but it should not affect me.

ETA: The old man pointing his G22 around should be banned also, but again I should not be held responsible for his stupidity.

ETA2: If I can't carry into the show it means I have to leave my gun in the car or not go to the show. If forced to choose I would not attend the show.

I will never leave my gun in the car. I could leave it home, but then I am without my gun for the entire time I am away from my house. Again, not gonna happen. Why carry a gun at all if you aren't going to carry it all the time. I learned a long time ago when I used to only be able to carry a pocket knife. When you leave it home that is the day you will actually need to use it.

Again, You're in Florida. Carry anyways and dont pull it out to try stuff on it. Keep it concealed. Signs mean jack here(although, the last class I sat in on the instructor stated that if you carried in a place that had a sign posted you would be hit with armed tresspassing )

I do carry anyway. I read the sign. Get my ticket. Cop asks if I have guns or ammo. I think none of your damn business, and tell him no I don't. Even if that is wrong I could give two shits.  I am a law abiding citizen that is very safe with firearms, and concealed does mean concealed.

Because, what's to stop someone from selling their pistol they are carrying loaded?

Better to just have everyone check them at the door so they can't sell loaded firearms.

Could also be a requirement of the property where the gun show is held.

THE VALLEY FORGE GUN SHOW HAS THE SAME SIGN.  SOMEBODY INSIDE THE DOOR ASKS IF YOU ARE CARRYING. THEY ALSO HAVE A METAL DETECTOR. NOT EVERYBODY GOES THROUGH THE DETECTOR, BUT THEY HAVE A POLICEMAN STANDING NEXT TO IT. MY GUESS IS THEY SCREEN A FEW PEOPLE AT RANDOM. WELCOME TO THE CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE. CHECK YOUR GUN AT THE DOOR.

I geuss that is my entire worry. That one day I will go to the gun show and they will have metal detectors.  Because then it's no more gun shows for me.

ETA: I deleted the part about the shot show. Sounded wrong when I came back and read it.
